I saw a remake of Voltron the other day and I must say it was very bad...not bad like Michael Jackson...but more so like Mariah Carey in Glitter bad. It is very rare that a remake of any 80's music, movie or any other form of entertainment medium turns out to be just as good or better than the original, most of the time they suck donkey.

Oh yeah, just for the record, changing a cartoons animation style to Japanimation does not make it cool and/or good (example: G1 Transformers - Transformers Animated)...and trying to be edgy by changing the characters backstory or race doesn't work either...just leave well enough alone and try to come up with something new and interesting yourself.

So please...just leave the 80's alone, get your butt back here to this generation and come up with something original and fresh...or stay out of the business all together. All you young gits will understand my displeasure more when these whack jobs start remaking everything and anything from the 90's...which I'm sure is not too far off knowing Hollywood.

MJM

...Voltron was spliced together out of several anime. It was already Japanimation.

I'm talking about the art style...not the origin...and I wasn't necessarily talking about Voltron I was just saying how the remake I saw was bad, there have been many remake cartoons that have gone all Pokemon art style just because it's the "cool" thing to do.

Voltron has that old-school anime look though.

OK...maybe my dislike is with the new school/old school style of Japanimation then.

Well, you're a racist then!

Oh come on, that was a joke!

The old Voltron wasn't that great, either. I loved it as a kid, but now some episodes are just painful. And the movie? Oh man. The Voltron movie was just awful.

Who me...never...I'm too soft to be racist.

I'm a child of the eighties since that was the music and tv of my youth. They've been destoying that decade for a good while, so I generally just try to ignore anything they do with that timeframe. Smurfs, Transformers, Bugs Bunny, TMNT; it just never stops. Plus, music just seemed so much better then and our music video channels actually played music videos.

Bugs Bunny never belonged to the 80s, and 80s cartoons really weren't good. US television cartoons (as opposed to movies) didn't really start getting good until the 90s (though there were some notable pre-80s exceptions).

Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of protonostalgia for the 80s, but the cartoons just weren't good.

I actually liked the new TMNT a lot better than the old one and I watched the original as a kid.

Rocky And Bullwinkle is the best cartoon ever.

I grew out of cartoons by the late 70s, but the ones from the 80s, as far I could tell, were just commercials for toys of those characters.

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 12, 2012 9:46:39 PM PST
MJM says:
So...what's wrong with that...the 80's also had the best toys.

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 12, 2012 9:50:44 PM PST
If you say so, MJM.

I liked my toys from the 60s (which I barely remember) and the 70s.

And Underdog, along with Rocky And Bullwinkle.

They really had toys back then...color me surprised.
