What I think Sony got right

It's kind of a slow day so just for fun and discussion I thought I'd post a few things that I think Sony did/does well.

The PSOne, Vita and reportedly the PS4 are easy to develop for. The less time that developers have to spend battling the system to get a game to work is time that could be spent on quality control, improving things or even working on extra content.

Sony is the one company that united multiple companies within the industry against software piracy. Other companies made their own efforts against piracy but Sony took the lead for a coordinated effort.

Sony was the first company to include a second analog stick which is often used for camera control. This fixed a lot of problems in early 3D games on N64 and Saturn and even PSOne.

Sony's first party studios are generally very good. I do think we hit a period where Sony was cranking out so many titles that their quality control took a hit but for the most part they have a lot of talent there.

I am a big fan of the "Play-Create-Share" concept Sony uses in games like Little Big Planet, ModNation Racers and Sound Shapes.

While it is not my favorite controller, the DS3 controller is well suited for a variety of game genres.

I like that Sony is willing to experiment with different pricing models. It is nice to see that somebody realizes not every game needs to release at $60/$40 for home/handheld consoles.

While the quality of the games offered on Plus can be hit or miss, the program itself is an excellent idea and it is good to see a company thinking outside the box like that.

Sony controller is for lady hands.
Xbox controller is for man hands.

Not a bad list IMHO.

Also, I like things about the DS3 and the 360 pad respectively. It looks like the DS4 is going to be much improved by "borrowing" some elements.

No, just differently gendered hands.

The 360 pad IS comfortable - but then you have to deal with the d-pad.

I think Sony's cross-play was done well both in costs to consumers and implementation.

It looks like the DS4 is big enough to hold comfortably and has decent trigger buttons. I guess Sony finally realized that you shouldn't have to buy a third-party add-on just to make two of the most important buttons on a controller functional.

Okay, is this guy a new poster, or just a new screen name?

I believe they accept what they did wrong and try to change it.

Who cares? Are you a fake poster, or a real guy named Nate?

Don't answer, because no one cares.

Gender has nothing to do with it actually. Some men have small hands, some women have larger hands.

Excellent list, Jason. I would agree with every point.

I think Sony got PSN+ and user upgradable HDD so very much right. I also like how they didn't drop the ps3 support this year just because the ps4 is due out. Unlike Nintendo and Microsoft.

JJ, thanks for the tip, time for me to do the same. I was curious about that.

With alt accounts for voting, it appears.

It's always sad when someone creates an extra account just to down vote others more. It's even more pathetic when they do it to up vote themselves.

I have very small hands, and I still prefer the 360 controller in terms of general comfort.

Edit: P.S. Nice list, Jason. :)

I like how Sony continuously pumps out quality games even if they're not big money makers for them.
