"Final Fantasy XV will be exclusive on PS4

Square-Enix has had problems in the current gen, I suspect that the company couldn't adapt Final Fantasy and other IPs to the HD era. Moreover, the first version of FF14 was a downfall, this game forced to stop the development of other games to focus in the rebuild of FF14. Really it's like a new game.

Square-Enix announced Final Fantasy Versus XIII years ago and the game was lost in the limbo. Square decided to halt Versus PS3 development two years ago, but the RPG wasn't cancelled, why? Two years ago, Square-Enix moved the game to PS4 and Sony got in the project.

Actually Sony is co-developing the game with Square-Enix, therefore, this game will be exclusive on PS4. Square renamed Versus to FF15 in the middle of this process. Sony's studios are helping SE with FF15 assets among other tasks.

We hinted this PS4 exclusive one month ago, but we couldn't speak freely about this topic. Now, it's all that we can say."

Uh, that link takes you to a forum. Hardly a reliable source. But this isn't the first time this rumor has come up either.

I was expecting a PS4 announcement for Versus during the PS4 reveal, yet all they did was announce a new FF game "just starting development". I don't think it's Versus since it's been in development for 7 years now.

DVvM says:
Is it really even worth it for Sony to commit significant resources towards ensuring FFXV's exclusivity? The game probably won't really sell outside of Japan as the brand is seriously damaged and JRPGs don't sell well outside of Japan, and it's not like "Selling PS4s in Japan" is going to be hard for Sony (unless they're afraid it will be, in which case the PS4 might be in trouble.)

Considering how awful the last FF's were, I hope it stays on the PS4.

This is still definitely a rumor, but Neogaf and VGLeaks have been right on quite a bit of these.

Im cautiously optimistic about something big being announced at E3 after the tease at the PS4 reveal.

After FFXIV I'm not sure I care to play a new FF game. And I played every one since the first game on NES so that is saying something.

Uncle Ulty says:
I disagree that this game wouldn't sell well outside of Japan. Honestly all Final Fantasies do much better in the US and Japan is Dragon Quest country.

It is Squeenix so I am not really counting on this rumor becoming anything great. They have done nothing but disappoint this gen IMO.

J. Pardee says:
This is hardly a new rumor since this has been going around for a few months now.

I would like it if Versus XIII was pushed to the PS4 instead since it should be able to handle the game much easier and it's an easier system to develop for. I would personally rather have the game stay with the same name but I can see the reasoning behind naming it XV instead because there is probably a slight stigma attached to the XIII games since the game was all over the place for people who like the game or not.

I can't imagine this is the news that SE announced at Sony's press conference though since it wouldn't really be an announcement on a new game. Just more information on it.

J. Pardee says:
I would agree. JRPGs have always been much more huge in Japan but the Final Fantasy series has always done amazingly well in the US. XIII was a hit or miss game but it was not a small game seller still.

DVvM says:
Didn't FFXIII-2 sell only around 1m copies in the U.S. combining PS3 and 360 sales?

I think FFXIII sold quite a bit better, but Final Fantasy was more of a "name" when FFXIII came out and people were buying it with an expectation of quality that they no longer have.

As long as FFXV is rumored as PS4 exclusive, it will suck big time
The moment it's announce as multiplat, it will become glorious.

Such a lemming comment.. how do FFXIII and 2 not have quality?

DVvM says:
A lot of people bought FFXIII and didn't like it. They subsequently didn't buy FFXIII-2, and have little interest in "Lightning Returns FFXIII-3".

Why didn't they like FFXIII? I don't know, but maybe it was "because they didn't think it was very good."

I don't play multiplayer games, or games that require subscriptions.

This is why Dragon Quest X upset me, since I've always been a much bigger DQ fan than a FF fan.

NeoGAF is a pretty legit place. You need to have a registered email address such as a state, school, government, or in my case military then you have to wait quite a bit of time to be approved. Took me over a year to get the ability to post there. A number of developers, journalists, and other industry insiders post there as well. If something like this is being posted on NeoGAF then there is some weight to it.

I'm not sure Sony is involved with the project though considering their own development woes with titles like Last Guardian which hasn't even remotely gotten off the ground. I would be rather surprised to see Versus stay exclusive as well considering how multiplatform pro Square has become not to mention the lengthy development cycle it has had Square will no doubt be looking to get it out there to as many people as possible.

Also it will be pretty sad if Square needs Sony to come in and get this project off the ground, especially in light of how quickly they've pumped out the other XIII spin offs no one was really asking for.

You're doing it wrong. It's always the other way around.

I get that a lot of dev's are trying to create ultra-realistic graphics for newer home consoles, but it seems to me that the FF titles were much better when it was more fantasy-driven than when they try to make them more realistic. Personally, if squenix were to announce a title on home console with an old-school artistic bent, I would be much more excited. If they were to do this, I could see 2 big benefits. First, less cost on dev as they don't need to push the envelope. Second, they would start to attract the players who miss this style of game. Next gen doesn't have to equal next gen graphics. Look at 3d dot game heroes. That title didn't push anything, but it was fun as all get out. If they were to put a FF title with that, imagine how many people would line up just to get the kind of games that they used to get into. This ties directly into the second big bullet point: gaining the trust of the fans who put them where they are(or were. They've really dropped the ball this past gen). What better way for them to show that they are interested in regaining our trust than to put their money where their mouth is. Countless people have a favorite FF game; how many of them list one of the newer ones at the top. 10 was the last that was really a hit where the series deserved. Put the fantasy back in Final Fantasy. Either that, or just drop the IP and have the latest ones exist in their own distinct universe.

assuming this is true, my reaction is a big "Meh". FFXIII finished what X-2 started in completely destroying my faith in FF console games.
