So I was installing infamous 2 which I downloaded from PSN, but the progress has been at 51% over 30 min already.

Has anyone had an issue with ps3 freezing during a game install?

Would I brick my PS3 HDD if I force restart the PS3? (That's what I am most concerned about)

What model of PS3? The 120GB Slims are known to freeze a lot. I don't recall ever having to do a force restart from an install though so I can't say what will happen.

Can you cancel the install?
No, you would not brick your system by restarting, it is only a game not firmware. You can just reinstall the game.

You'll probably just corrupt the data on the hard drive if you do restart.

Sounds like the data was corrupted when you downloaded it. Did anything interrupt the download? You may have to cancel the install by pulling the power from the unit then delete the corrupted data and redownload/install. That happened to me when I was downloading Bioshock 2.

why buy/download PS3 games through PSN when they're $10 or so cheaper at a regular store? like Walmart.

I normally buy physical copies. However, I have PS+ and infamous was one of the "free" games on the instant game collection.

Its possible that the download got interrupted. I queued it up for download awhile back several weeks ago and had it download in the background.

I turned on my PS3 today and it automatically started installing because I had enabled the PS+ auto download/install ( I forgot I had enabled that feature).

After it got stuck during the install, I did a force restart by holding the PS3 button on the console and it booted up fine after it performed the integrity check on the file system. The install got corrupted , but that's no biggie. I might just start off from scratch and re-download it.

In retrospect, I think enabling that feature might have been a bad idea. I might disable the auto download/install for PS+ and just do it on-demand.

I have my auto dl/install set to a time I know that I won't be playing: 4-6am EST.
