Yeah, I know what you mean. I was going to write a full Mitt Romney concession speech saying how he doesn't understand how he lost when he cheated so good, etc. But who has the time these days?

So can a 7.62 x 54r round that hasn't seen service since the Mosin Nagant was still prevalent on battlefields...what's your point?

Edit: forgot Dragunovs run them...so more recent...but still.

Sorry man, I just used .223 as an example. I don't like armor piercing rounds at all, because I wear soft armor at work.

Personal and professional bias.

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 8, 2012 10:32:54 AM PST
Ah, well there's your point and I now understand your previous statements. ;)

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 8, 2012 10:36:30 AM PST
I wear a Level III vest...so I never thought about the implications of soft armor.

That being said, plenty of bolt-action hunting rifles run the .223...as well as much more powerful rounds (.308)...so the round itself is hard to argue against.

FOGE says:
Yeah, Im sure there are plenty who are like that. And I think most do it for the "sit in the woods with your buddies" aspect than anything... and the trophy. Most I know will either keep or sell or give the food away though. I just had some venison 2 nights ago. Its an acquired taste but I enjoy it. They usually wont let it go to waste at least.

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 8, 2012 10:37:57 AM PST
Wait, I thought you couldn't hunt large game with .223?

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 8, 2012 10:39:25 AM PST
FOGE says:
Why is that? Cant you hunt with a 308?

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 8, 2012 10:41:59 AM PST
I think it's not a big enough round to guarantee a kill. They don't want you riddling the thing with a bunch of flea bites.

Only in some states is it illegal.

Unless you mean couldn't in that it's not practical...in that case for a Bear, not so much, for a deer, perfectly useful...depending on your placement, of course.

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 8, 2012 10:44:46 AM PST
Ah, I'd still want a .30-06 for a deer but that's just me.

Or my loverly Marlin .44 lever action.

FOGE says:
Jeally. I want a lever action rifle. I'd probly go .45 though for redundancy.

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 8, 2012 10:46:23 AM PST
I always preferred my Winchester 30-30 for deer.

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 8, 2012 10:47:08 AM PST
I use a long cartridge .44 that wouldn't fit in a pistol anyway, you want a heavier load in a rifle (well really a brush gun).

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 8, 2012 10:48:00 AM PST
My grandpa took a 18 pointer with a Winchester 30-30, he always loved that cartridge. That and his 300.

Recall that the Democrats had control of all both legislative houses during the first 2 years of the Obama presidency, and they never even attempted to pass any gun restriction legislation. While this is certainly cause for vigilance, it is not yet cause for hysteria.

See my earlier comment. Lever actions are so cool. Don't they jam less? I don't own one so I don't really know, but I remember hearing something like that. A useful trait for zombie apocalypses.

Recently I was considering having a custom build done around the AR platform but in .458 SOCOM...but then it dawned on me how expensive the rounds are (even if you reload your own it's hard to come by components...and even they aren't cheap)...still it was a nice thought for about 48 hours, however impractical the notion may have been.

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 8, 2012 10:51:02 AM PST
My .44 was jamming, but they are very simple. Just popped out one screw, found the bad spring, put a new on in and we're golden. AND I look like a cowboy.

.50 'Beowulf' rounds for the win?

I think Cabela's sells the conversion kits for them...

Dukeshire says:
SNL did it best with their parody of the 2nd Debate when the question about guns came up:

"What will you do to limit the purchase of deadly assault weapons such as AK's?"

Both answered: "Nothing."

And they went to the next question.

Third this.

Hell yeah! Theyre just cool rifles. Very old school, like western old school. Plus, they re pretty cheap so why not grab one. And come ZA, Im grabbing my M4. Nato ammo should be plentiful.

Cabela's flyer is the thing I secretly spend 10 minutes pouring over every Sunday.
