Minecraft for Xbox 360 continues to rack up the number of copies sold since its release in May, surpassing the 5 million mark on the last day of 2012. Those numbers were fueled by a 453,000-unit bump on Christmas Day alone.

Daniel Kaplan of Mojang Specifications tweeted the milestone only days after Markus "Notch" Persson revealed the Christmas Day figures. The new numbers show the continued popularity of the game, which became profitable after its first hour on the shelf, and sold 1 million copies within the first five days of its launch on May 9. The game continually gives Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 stiff competition on Xbox Live.

The game is almost a direct port of the PC version, which officially launched in November 2011 and has sold more than 8 million copies. The mobile version hit 5 million copies sold earlier in December.

its still a good price, though i'd recommend getting it for the pc rather the 360. i played the demo on the 360, and honestly, i think the pc version is way better. this is coming from a guys whose collection of games is a good 70% console.

and that's not even counting the dozens of mods for the game. it'd be worth getting on the pc over the 360 for thaumcraft and equivalent exchange alone. they are magical mods, basically. for the more technologically inclined, there's also Industrial Craft, Build Craft, Railcraft and Red Power, amongst others. they they add an option to automate a bunch of crap using what amounts to electricity in the game, once you set up the power grids.

the pc version is also the one that gets the updates first, if i recall correctly, the 360 version is pretty damn far behind it.

Well, you just listed reasons why lots of games are better played on PC. For instance, The Elder Scrolls games are much more playable on PCs than consoles in my opinion. I don't have anything against people who choose to play those games on consoles but to me that is a rather diminished experience.

For whatever reason, an astronomical amount of people are choosing to play Minecraft on 360 despite that version being behind.

Ah, normally I'd wonder if my tablet auto-corrected for me but mincecraft doesn't make sense.

My nephews played this on xbox over their xmas break and they are addicted. They keep playing the demo over and over. Of course, as young as they are, when xbox 360 demos end they think they have beaten the whole game. I keep telling them I don't think you can actually beat Minecraft. One day I'll cough up the money so they can buy the game on their own xbox.

It's not an exclusive though.

i've got Morrowind for the xbox and pc. its fun with the mods, but honestly, i don't think mods make nearly as much of a difference with games like the elder scrolls series as they do with a game like Minecraft.

i also got Oblivion on the 360 and plan on getting skyrim GOTY on the 360. though that has as much to do with the fact that i don't have a pc capable of playing Skyrim as anything else.

i like the controls on the pc better than i like the ones on the 360 for minecraft as well. and that's not something you'll hear me say often. i think its like only one of two games i've actually said about that, actually, lol. the other being DAO.
