Angry Birds invalidates the entire list.

OP says:
Sure it's not Leisure Suit Larry being among the top in the 80s?

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 16, 2012 7:38:15 AM PST
MrFoxhound says:
Leisure Suit Larry was actually good as a classic PC game.

Yeah really, I thought there was a rule to not post VG related articles from Time?

No Uncharted 2, the best game ever made ever.

I love that Demon's Souls made the list.

OP says:
Maybe, but surely not top 100 all-time.

Huh. This is actually a pretty phenomenal list!

McAwesomeo says:
So does Leisure Suit Larry. Of all the classic Sierra adventure games (or even non-Sierra adventure games), that one? At least they had King's Quest.

List seems pretty good....I understand Angry Birds from a popularity standpoint....

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 16, 2012 7:41:13 AM PST
For it being Time Magazine and for only being able to select 100 games, I thought so too.

As much as the VGF hates Angry Birds, the game itself is a very good puzzle game with a solid physics that is enjoyed by the masses. Its the tetris of the 2000's.

MrFoxhound says:
They put solitaire on there. I assume that they mean the solitaire game that always came with Windows.

More competent than many lists we've seen come out of gaming specific venues, which lends it all the more legitimacy in my mind.

Luffy says:
I read what the article says about Angry Birds. Basically it says, "You can't talk about the concept of casual gaming without mentioning Angry Birds in the same breath. It's the ultimate modern-day casual game series." and "game has been downloaded a bajillion times (12+ million to be more precise) and is available on just about any device that has a touchscreen and can connect to the internet." So yea, I'm guessing its on the list since its such a casual game.

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 16, 2012 7:43:10 AM PST
Yep. One of the first "casual" video games.

I really hope you are kidding.

What this guy said. It's become pretty much a cultural icon, and it's doing a lot to push the emerging mobile gaming market, in much the same way that Tetris proved to be a tremendous boom to the handheld gaming market in the 80s and 90s.

I'm actually ok with this list. Sure I could change a few things (BioShock over System Shock 1&2?) but not bad for Time Mag.

OP says:
Ah, I remember playing Oregon Trail on those old Apple II's back in elementary school. Getting a good hunting map, hitting everything that moves, and then being told you can only carry away 200 pounds of what you shot. Fording a shallow river, only to sink and have a party member drown. Getting killed by random snakebites or sudden outbreaks of dysentery or malaria. Good times.

Not kidding. Look at what Tetris did in the late 80's early 90's for mobile gaming. Tetris was not a hardcore videogame, it was a really good puzzle game, but it was as casual a game as you can get back then. It was extremely popular among gamers and non-gamers alike. They both sold tons of copies and made large marks in changing the video gaming indsutry. We have to give props where props are needed and Angry birds deserves its props.

You Have Died of Dysentery would still make a great band name.

They have a zombie version of Oregon Trail on the App Store, I'm waiting for it to go free to snag it.
