Vanquish: 9.5/10
Great game with absolutely fantastic gameplay. Quite surprising that two of my favourite games (the other being Demon's Souls) have had such good gameplay that the absolutely rubbish stories didn't even have a negative impact on the score.

The Walking Dead: 9/10
I really loved the story of this game and the emotional bond I forged with the characters involved. It's a good example of a game which really has an impact on you.

Crysis 2: 8/10
This game was pretty good in all aspects. It had a decent story, it had good gameplay but there were a few bugs as well. The AI was wonky at times and the boss battles tended to be frustrating once they started repeating. Not that big a deal but definitely worth docking a couple of points.

FIFA 12: 8.5/10
Probably can't ever say that a sports game has been completed but when I stopped playing, I felt like I had done enough with the title. Really good gameplay and quite a few new features as compared to the previous version. Fun time.

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine: 8/10
Another good game with gameplay standing out. Decent story, frustrating levels intermittently and an innovative concept ruined by some stupid thinking (I hate the part where you are susceptible to attacks while you are carrying out the action to regenerate your health)

So many people are deathly scared to give a game 10/10. It makes me laugh.

I played a few games last year I'd give a 10/10, they just weren't within the last five games I played.

I've never played a game I would give a 10/10 to.

I've played games I would give a score around 9.99999999/10 to (that's about where I would score Grim Fandango) but no 10s.

So than 9.99999999/10 is now the top of the scale. Your 9.99999999/10 is the same thing as a 10/10 since both represent the highest possible recognition.

PlayStation AllStars: Single player is lacking, but multiplayer is addictive as crack. Got the plat. 8.5/10

Uncharted Golden Abyss: Best looking handheld game ever. Great story and gameplay. Wish there was online. 8.5/10

God of War Ghost of Sparta PS3: Didn't think a portable GOW would end up being one of the best in the series if not THE best. 9/10

Little Big Planet Vita: Pretty much the same consensus as Ghost of Sparta. 9/10

Twisted Metal: I've only played maybe half the story, but put in a lot of time online. Good frantic fun. Glad to play a game that doesn't take itself too seriously these days. 8/10

No, I hold out the possibility to someday give a 9..999999999 or 9..9999999999 or a 9.9999999999998 to a game.

My scale has no top, as there is no greatest element in [0,10).

Not me, lol.

If I love something and find it very enjoyable, it's pretty much a 5/5 or 10/10 for me. If it has some annoyances, it'll get docked. But if it was an otherwise buttery smooth experience, unique, and/or just awesome, I have no problem giving it what I feel I got out of it. I feel no need to appease someone and point out any little flaw that doesn't ultimately hurt the product.

Based on the games I've beaten ever since I came across VGF, my ratings are a bell curve between 7-10, which seems like most ppl here too.

Rated 6 - 1.8%
Rated 7 - 20.7%
Rated 8 - 33.9%
Rated 9 - 30.1%
Rated 10 - 13.2%
(.3% fraction left over)

the raw data is there for easy retrieval, since you can sort your games based on your ranking.

Oooh, but as we've seen in the past there can be a 11/10. No matter the score you can always go higher.

11/10 scores are asinine. These sorts of things actively undermine the credibility of the organization giving the score.

But a .99999999999999999999999 doesn't?

DVvM says:
Nope, if you have an n-point scale, all of your scores should fall in the interval [0,n].

I mean, if Siskel and Ebert had given a movie 3 thumbs up because they really liked it, wouldn't that have been kinda stupid?

Or really disturbing, depending what they used to substitue for an additional thumb.

No, their reviews are what they write and what they say in the show. The thumbs is just a quick thing that can easily be referenced by others.

Same thing with all other scores, it's a quick summary of a lengthier work. Giving an 11/10 is simply that individual's way of saying "holy balls I loved this". It's a message designed to grab attention and convey an opinion, it doesn't have to make any sense beyond that.

EDIT: I give my own post 11 post it notes out of Cthulhu
