Well, every console sale adds to the pile of money, but it's not the only thing that adds to the pile of money.

Console manufacturers at this point in the generation care much more about game sales than console sales, as those are quite a bit more profitable.

no it starts when Nintendo who started after everyone in the 7gen and quickly realized they needed to push a new console before the gen was over. How stupid of ....

because if you eat as many as they sell that would be deadly for you

I think it went faster than most expected. The ps3 was assumed to live longer than it will, but it didn't dominate like the ps2 did. The ps2 was just flat out the most dominating console of all time. I think the stagnant economy also caused sales to flatten out, making the generation end quicker than expected. Of course Nintendo launching the U after 5 years isn't helping either. Overall 5-6 years is typical for a generation. Though we all wish it were 8-10.

Bragging about being runner up? Interesting. I don't get it. I mean, I don't care who sells the most fast food burgers, meaning I certainly don't care who sold the second most. :)

So, can I go out and buy my PS Orbis now?

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 20, 2012 2:04:12 PM PST
Thanks for the info. And *wow!* I don't know why, but it feels like this past gen went by fast. Probably because I didn't buy into it until a few years in.

We are in our eighth generation of consoles now. If you want to pretend we aren't so the Ps3 can catch up suit yourself.

Why does it matter? I mean do we care who sells the most burgers?

I think the issue here is not first, second or third, but who stays ahead of the other between MS and Sony

Most indications have MS at 2013, while Sony is having mixed reports with half saying 2013 and the other 2014. I would expect 2013 to be the last year of great support when it comes to the ps3/360. The generation is on the way out. Personally I fully expect both to launch in 2013, especially if the U sells well. :)

No. The new generation started for nintendo. It hasn't ended for MS or Sony.

I haven't been here for a while (1-2 years I think), and it's interesting to see the same people posting the same arguments. It's like coming home. :-)

I've been out of the loop for a while, but I'll say this: whoever "won" the gen, and however many consoles were sold, I still enjoy playing both the PS3 and the 360. Hell, I even bought a used Wii at a yardsale for the hell of it, and it has its place now and then.

Serious question (I *really* haven't been paying attention): are the new Microsoft and Sony consoles set to release soon (2013), or are they both still a ways off?
