I've had a lot of fun with the Single Player campaigns in a few of the COD games and some other FPS's...I don't really ever play the multiplayer as I just don't really have the time for it and play many other types of games. I like to put them on the hardest difficulty not only for the extra achievos and feeling of accomplishment but just the overall fun of having to try something over and over again until you learn the AI's weaknesses and the correct way to move to the next area. So basically for the Single Player campaign challenge and some of the story, mostly the challenge.

It doesn't matter. It sold 500 million in one day, clearly the dislikers like you and me are in the super minority.

I haven't played BO2 yet, but I had some fun with MW3.
The Specialist streak makes me feel like Rambo every time. I mean, where else can you do something like this?

I appreciate the high production values - and I can see why others may enjoy these - but I typically dont.

I'm not a fan of what I term "frantic shooters".
These games are all chaos on steroids. "Ok run there", "Shoot that", ok "now run there". They are too frantic for me - it's like you have to rush from objective to objective, and cant take a second to admire any details or even catch your breath. I also often cant tell who is an enemy or ally - there's just too much going on too quickly - its all madness and chaos.

I far prefer my Shooters to be less crazy, with better pacing and build-up - Half-Life, BioShock or Crysis are more my thing.

I don't really like it, but I understand why people do. It's a great MP game, just not my cuppa.

I like black ops II but its also the first call of duty i have owned since MW2 so its been a whle and when you have played BF since then it is a good change of pace and to me its like mindless fun.

Everyone said you'd feel sorry for Menendez but I still thought he was an incredibly evil dude no matter how you look at it.

If you compare it to MW3 though.

I always found your opinions interesting, DVvM. May I ask why military shooters are vaguely offensive to you? I personally find them to be in somewhat poor taste, because it essentially turns very real, very not-so-glamorous military service into household entertainment.

How many movies, novels, tv shows do not turn very real, very not-so-glamorous military service into household entertaiment? Ian, thats a biased view.

video games are entertainment, whatever the form, you start reading too much importance into it thats where the problem is. I play them for entertainment. I couldn't give a F less about fantasy and RPG's but thats just me. I couldn't understand why someone would like that, but to each their own. I like shooting things that are not real, its entertaining to me. I would hate to shoot an actual human being though.

i havent played BLOPS 2, but the only thing i really liked about BLOPS 1 is 'Sticks and stones", why? there is no hiding,, secondly, you actually have to come out and attempt to kill someone to win. Thats as fair as it gets. Completely fun. The hatchet kills are the best.

Distort reality? the whole point is that IT IS NOT REAL. what kind of self-rigtheous di.ckish view is this? GTFOH. What do you play/read/watch on TV? i'm pretty sure NONE OF THEM are based on reality.

You're right. That's a good point. However, a lot of war movies have powerful messages in them. The Deer Hunter, Seven Samurai, Apocalypse Now, Platoon, The Big Red One, Full Metal Jacket, they may not all be 100% realistic, but they all have something important to say and are clear-cut works of art. Even in mindless military movies like Commando or Rambo III, the action unfolds on screen, it isn't controlled by the player.

Which brings up another point. You're obviously an intelligent, mature adult. That's why I understand where you're coming from on Call of Duty. But about about preteens and young teenagers who aren't so mature? CoD is huge in that crowd. Playing CoD may very well glamorize war and distort their world views.

I like shooting things too, Real. Aliens, monsters, zombies, that kid of thing. I like a lot of gore, so blasting people to tiny pieces in Unreal Tournament is more my steez than CoD. That's what I meant by fiction. It's necessarily all Final Fantasy, RPG nerd stuff, though I like that, too.

Ian, dont forget, i know a little bit about Asian entertainment like you do, i can name about 20 completely mindless movies if you want me to. [all i have to do is call a friend for the remaining 10] So lets press the "moot" button on that point.

About the teen thing, this is where you cant blame the makers of the game or the game itself. They shouldn't bear any responsibility for raising people's kids. Small Knives can be tools of destruction in a neonate's hands, guess what? in my hand it cuts apples. Nobody is going to ban guns, knives or nails because babies might exist in the same places. We are not going to condemn the Uzi because of Columbine. People kill people, not guns. If the parents can't do their job then thats their problem. I blame the parents 100% of the time. Thats why i cant play MP most of the time, its depressing what these kids say. I dont even go to Gamestop anymore, i walk in there, and I feel like smacking the first 3 parents i see because they are pacifying a kid throwing a tantrum with an M-rated video game. I cannot condemn something that has benefits, because mindless parents let TV shows, TV personalities and rappers raise their kids.

Here are a few stories that I have to share:

(2010,before Black Ops)

Friend: MW2 is the Best Game EVAR!!!

(2010, Black Ops out)

Me: I'm going to get MW1 for Christmas

Same Friend: Dude, you should get Black Ops

(2011-pre-MW3)

Me: I'm going to get MW2

Brother: What? You're getting an old CoD game?

(2011-MW3 out)

Brother: You need MW3

(a few weeks ago)

Me: I'll let my mom get BO2 for herself
Different Friend: You don't have BO2?
Me: I learned my lesson after buying MW3
Same Friend: Dude, MW3 has nothing on BO2
Me: I don't care

(I walk away at this point, looks like I grew out of CoD)

I only got BO2 because my brother bought it for me. We unlocked what we wanted and we haven't really played since. I told him this would happen too. It was jus tlike this for MW3. He went back to playing Skyrim and I went back to Halo 4. Hopefully he has learned his lession this time.

Probably not though, especially if the next one is a launch title for the next Xbox or PS4.
