When you need to pay an $18 fee every 3 months or $50 a year to rent them?

Games on PS+ are not free.

Games on PS+ are like streaming movies on netflix. You have access to them as long as you are a subscriber, which is a privilege you pay for. No one would say "Netflix streaming movies are free" they would just say "if you pay the membership fee you can watch the streaming movies they have as much as you want" which accurately mimics how PS+ works as well.

The value proposition of both Netflix and PS+ are based on how much you use it. If you don't actually watch any netflix movies it's not a good value to subscribe. Likewise "if you don't play PS+ games, take advantage of discounts." But if would you use either service extensively it's probably a good idea to join.

Yup yup. I'd agree with that.

Once I'm done with a game, I'm usually done with it for good, so games on PS+ feel free to me.

Flores. says:
If you get enough discounted games over a year to make up for the $50 yearly fee, those "rentals" become pretty much free.

DVvM says:
Well, if you save enough money on shipping with Amazon Prime to make up the yearly fee, do the streaming movies that Amazon Prime offers become free?

I wouldn't say so. You're just paying something for a membership, and the membership offers certain privileges or opportunities that may or may not be a good value for you depending on how much you would use them.

Flores. says:
It's not a fair comparison, because amazon gives you free shipping without prime.

Really? I would like some Xanax, Adderall, and maybe some Prozac just to mellow out.

So I was watching a playthrough of the Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse game, and in the first level while fighting angry frat guys, a parade float goes by with Peter on it naked, crying, and singing "my milkshake brings all the boys to the yard, and they're like "its better than yours, damn right, its better than yours, I could teach you but I have to chaarrrgeee"

I like my free rentals.

I pay for PS+ so I get cloud saving, automatic updates, early beta access, and the ability to 1-hour trial many new games.

The free games I get every month are awesome. Call them rentals, whatever. They weren't there when I started my subscription, so they were an addition that did NOT cost me any additional money.

To me, they are free.

I play all my PC games online for free, so nya!

Yet this argument is frowned upon when Xbots use it to justify paying for Live.

Live puts lots of things that should be free behind a paywall.
That's unjustifiable.

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 20, 2012 6:54:39 PM PST
Okay, sure. But if someone pay $60/year for Live and gets more than that back in savings on games, is that person being ripped off?

When the multiplayer portion of your physical games is unusable because that function REQUIRES payment, there's nothing on earth that justfies that, discounts or not. It's just plain unacceptable. THAT's why the argument is frowned upon.
