Kinda.

I had to RMA the motherboard and will take at least one more week to be up and running again.

I went with a more modest setup this time. Don't plan on being on the bleeding edge like I used to, it's just stupid and pc parts loose value pretty quick.

I got me this:
-i5 3570K
-AsRock Extreme4 Z77 mobo
-Evga GTX 670 FTW Sig2
-Phantom 410 case
-16gb DDR3 G.Skill

I originally planned to wait a bit longer for next gen Intel/Nvidia parts but Heart of the Swarm, Crysis 3 and Bioshock Infinite convinced me otherwise.

Cool. Let me know if you can tell a difference between the 680 and 670 FTW....besides the cost that is.

M. Stifler says:
I wouldn't call that setup modest. You can run most games at high to ultra settings.

I can run most games at high-ultra settings just with my 6870.

This is much more than a modest setup.

He said it was a "more modest" and all things relative it is.

My monitor is 2560 x 1440, I couldn't go lower than a 670.

Are there any concerns with these graphics cards with 2GB of graphics RAM? I'm currently doing alot of research on building my own gaming pc and I've been reading that games like Skyrim with mods running are using well above the 2GB threshold. For this reason I'm leaning towards either a 3GB AMD Radeon or 4GB Nvidia GTX. Thoughts?

I have a 1GB vRAM 6870 and I run Skyrim with all AA turned off with a bunch of visuals mods including the FXAA tool from Nexus without a hiccup. Now if you want 1080p+ resolution and all AA turned on, a 2GB vRAM gpu is a must I would think. These days, I wouldn't go lower than 2GB of vRAM.

Looking at monitors now. I think I might just go with a 1080p monitor.

That's all you really need :P. Just make sure it is a 1-2ms response time monitor.

1k+

GPU is ~400 alone, cpu is ~220. 2 parts and you're already at 620+tax/shipping. My entire PC cost 550 with OS. Sad panda face.

Holy bawlz, and that's modest?

In reply to an earlier post on Mar 12, 2013 11:02:15 AM PDT
Depending on your overall desk setup and distance to your monitor, in my opinion a good bet is a ~23" 1080p monitor.
That's what I use, and I can see (and process) my whole screen while gaming. So I can shoot a guy while seeing his buddy on the radar while he tries to run up behind me. Then he gets all shocked when I turn around and shotgun him to death because I guess most people aren't big on "situational awareness."
With a bigger monitor, I had to move my eyes/head to see the corners, so I was actually less effective in shooters. The same basic principle applies for other genres, as well.
