I wish I was playing 2nd edition Shadowrun right now. Pre-wireless Matrix and AR. Not that I mind those things, but the old school game with my college buddies is cemented into my brain.

Edit: Anyone remember the awesome games they made for SNES and Genesis? I loved the SNES game's atmosphere even if they did let you sling spells as a cyber'd out Sammy. "Dog controls your destiny. Seek him soon or you will be lost." I love the dog totem! Fanboy explosion in 3...2...grhkh.

I only had a brief brush in with table top version of shadowrun, but the little bit I remembered I enjoyed... gonna give the snes(genesis) version a shot in preparation for this, but yes I will donate to this kickstarter project.

I heard on a podcast that it will only be the PC version. They're unable to deliver the iOS version for free due to some kind of contractual restriction.

Not iOS--I don't think that's possible with the way the App Store works--, but you do get a Mac copy if you choose. Or maybe you get both? It's not entirely clear.

It's obvious that there are a lot of very passionate fans out there who are clamoring for Linux support, and we would love to be able to include everyone in Shadowrun Returns.

As we said over the weekend, we're being very careful not to over-commit to ideas and features (especially just to get more funding).

When we added the Mac version of the game (thanks to your enthusiastic support), we did it because we have the necessary Mac experience in-house and our development environment already supports PC and Mac. We were confident that we could deliver without over-burdening the overall product.

Linux is a bit of a different story, however. While it's true that we have a great environment for cross-platform development (how else could we target PC, Mac, iOS, AND Android!), it does not, at this time, include support for Linux. Because of this and because we needed to add Linux to our small studio's skill-set, we felt that committing to a Linux version was unwise, so we (reluctantly) took it off the table.

Since that time, two important things have happened:

* We reached out to members of the Linux community to better understand the scope and developmental risk that a Linux port would introduce.

* Our partners at Zipline Games (the creators of our dev environment, Moai) have rearranged their development roadmap to support Shadowrun Returns and add Linux to their list of supported platforms.

So here's the deal: We can now say with confidence that if we hit our $1M stretch goal, we will be able to partner with the right external developer, port Shadowrun Returns to Linux, and deliver it in a reasonable amount of time after the game is released.

We'll also add it to the $15 reward level (alongside the PC/Mac versions). Now if you're a Linux-only user, you'll have to wait for your version, but from what you've told us, you're willing to do that.

For those of you just learning about Shadowrun (welcome BTW, glad you're here!), we've posted an old World of Shadowrun Primer on our website. It provides an illustrated overview of the game setting, plus a handy glossary so you can start talking the talk. The primer is also a great way to share some Shadowrun love with your friends and let them know what all the fuss is about.

Speaking of sharing the love, we made a little something for you. Don't get all misty on us-it's a blatant marketing move. One of our artists made a few "Shadowrun Kickstarter Backer" images for you to post on your blog, use as your Facebook cover image, and share on the internets. (You can find more images here.)

Speaking of our artists, we put an About Us section on our website so you could get to know the team a little better. We don't want to be some faceless corp to you.

And now, on to the meat: We've been monitoring your communications for some time and have noted your desire for something . . . physical. Something you could hold in your hands and say, "I made this happen." We hear you. Downloadable games are cool but there's something awesome about opening a box containing a game you've been waiting for.

So let's do it!

Today, we're announcing a new reward level for our Kickstarter. At the brand new $125 level, you'll get a Shadowrun Returns Deluxe Box Edition including the game disc, soundtrack disc, a mini-poster, and-check this-a Shadowrun Returns USB Dog Tag set, containing DRM-free versions of the game (PC/Mac/Linux) and soundtrack (and maybe one or two other surprises, too).

Okay, that's it for now. Check our FAQ, BTW. We just added some new stuff for you. As we get closer to the $1M mark (seriously?), we're already hearing people asking us what's next. We'll talk about that in our next video update.

So that's $28,349 in about an hour and a half. If anything, we've seen from Double Fine there's a strange kind of rush near 1m as everyone tries to be the person to break that dollar amount. 1m seems safe. I estimate it ends at 1.1-1.3m.

In the video, they talk about a new goal at $1.5M, granting a backers-only exclusive mission, which would tie together the stories of the SNES title AND the Genesis title. Jake, the protagonist of the former, and Harlequin, a major character from the latter, are both mentioned as being involved. They emphasize that they want to focus more on adding more depth, more characters, and more locations with the money they continue to receive, which is why they aren't adding more features in as part of meeting this new goal, but go on to mention they have some "pretty twisted ideas about what could happen" if things get up to $2M by the end of the backing period.

Last week we announced that if our funding hit $1.5m, we'll create a special story, just for backers, that connects the plots in the SNES and Sega Shadowrun games. It's our way of saying thank you for all your support. Your reaction was immediate, passionate, and inspiring.

It seems like everyone is really excited about the mission (we are too!), but an overwhelming number of you don't want that the mission to be exclusive for backers. You want everyone who loves Shadowrun to be able to experience it.

That's awesome.

Your generosity of spirit and your support for people who aren't (yet, we hope) involved in this Kickstarter really says something important about the Shadowrun Community and we're proud to be a part of it. But we still want to say "thank you" to everyone supporting the project and putting their faith in us.

So here's what we're going to do: If we're lucky enough to get to $1.5m, we'll create that story and make it available only to backers but for an exclusive period of time. Then, we'll open it up so that everyone can see how the dots between Jake and Harlequin are connected.

Everybody plays. Everybody wins. Everybody calls DocWagon.

You people are incredible. As of this writing, we have well over 6,000 posts on our Kickstarter page alone. Add to that the thousands more on Reddit, Dumpshock, Facebook, the comments pages of sites hosting articles about the project, and the gazillion private messages and emails we receive and one thing is clear-people are talking about Shadowrun Returns.

Back when Jordan first created Shadowrun, this sort of community interaction just wasn't possible. The best way (it felt like the only way) to communicate with fans was in person at game conventions. Not a very efficient method, but a fun one! Happily, the Digital Age is upon us and we feel very lucky to have the ability to read your comments, listen to your debates, and write blog posts like these.

As we look across all the myriad websites and forums, it's become quite apparent that this community needs a place of its own: a Shadowrun Universe website.

* One place where fans of every aspect of Shadowrun (remember the collectible card game?) come together to learn, to express themselves, and to have fun.
* One place where everyone we can share a love of Shadowrun: forums, fiction, art, videos, news . . . everything.
* One place where we can check in with you.

So, in that spirit of community, we've teamed up with our friends at Cliffhanger Productions, who are developing Shadowrun Online and with Catalyst Game Labs, the producers of the Shadowrun tabletop game, to make this a reality.

Just to be clear: we are not going to use any of the Shadowrun Returns Kickstarter money to fund the Shadowrun Universe website.

Our Kickstarter project is about creating a new Shadowrun game with your generous support. The Shadowrun Universe website is about all of us revitalizing and re-energizing a game setting that we've loved for years.

More on this later when we've worked through the details. For now, back to crunching!

The new goal, at $1.75M, will mean a new class will be added to the game. I actually couldn't make out what he was calling it, and I'm not familiar enough with Shadowrun to be able to recognize it from his description, but he summed it up as magical ninjas. Kinda cool if it gets added, I guess, and it's still possible, but I'm not too psyched up for it, myself. He also mentions that they've gotten the composers for the SNES and Genesis Shadowrun games to come in and collaborate on the music (though that seems to be unrelated to donation goals). There's also a new donation level at $175, which gives you everything other than the $50 digital-only package, as well as all three T-shirts. (Some of this stuff is from update #9, which I didn't notice till now).

So, yeah. If you haven't donated enough to get your copy yet, you've got 44 hours left.
