Saturday: I was able to get their signatures for my copy of Darksiders (ps3), as well as asked them about how it was working with each other in the game of Darksiders. They were excited and told me it was a lot of fun. Liam's unboxing of my game was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
(Joe Madureira signing it)
Sunday: So this is where it got interesting. There was a THQ Darksiders panel with Joe Madureira letting us know how it was working with the game. People went and asked questions about his previous work in comics and Marvel. To his answer about people who want to follow their dreams with drawing, "do what you love and don't give up on it. Keep drawing, keep practicing."
To the questions of darksiders on how it came to the creation of the game, it was an idea that the company was working on that were glad the experience felt great and a lot of players liked and enjoy enough to grant a sequel.
He did let us know how he felt about today's industry in gaming. He is worried that the video game industry is becoming a lot like the movie industry. In the movie industry people come together to make one project and once done, they all go their separate ways. In video games, he says that a company survives through different ideas and IP games. Only issue is that a lot of resources go to make AAA games that if the games do not break even or earn enough profits the companies close down.
I asked him if he was worried about THQ going under. He replied that he hadn't thought about it and believes THQ will be ok since they are now working more on quality over quantity. They're cutting some projects for now to make the current ones be delivered while the rest are in the backburner.
Another person asked if darksiders 2 will have a concept artbook like darksiders did when it came out.
The Art of Darksiders
He replied that it would actually be THQ who would need to develop that.
What surprised me the most about the interview was his personal thoughts about how amazed he was about how mobile gaming and facebook games were doing. He was saying about how easily it is to game on them like throwing a bird from one end to the screen to another and how much that has help in terms of profit the gaming industry with companies moving to hit a casual market.
I asked him if there would be a darksiders game, like a tie-in, for mobile gaming or for the ps vita or 3ds. He said that he wishes darksiders could hit those markets but the company is so busy they don't have the time to do them. Another company would have to do it.
At the end of the panel they showed us a trailer for darksiders, and a major spoiler of a boss battle. (Links will be added later on.) (recorded a bit of the battle since I didn't want to reveal a lot though).
Overall, I felt I learned a lot about darksiders 2, including more on the main protagonist and more information. If you guys have any questions that may reveal more about the game than what I've said. Feel free to ask.
I kept most of the spoilers out of this but I will spoil some things if you guys wish.
