Our friendship has never been in more jeopardy than it is right now, Oskar.

Seconding the Junpei Iori comment - best supporting character ever, hands down.

Yosuke from P4 is much more of what I had in mind as a best pal type of character than Junpei. Sorry, I lump Junpei in the same category as Zell from FFVIII or Rico from Xenogears...LOL

Yeah, the game itself recommended I start as a dude, but I trusted the insight of my coinflip. Also I'm on...the 85th floor? Wherever the gate is in that area.

Oh yeah, is there a huge or worthwhile reason to max out charm/courage/intelligence? They've only appeared necessary to translate a pointless sign and talk to a monk, the latter I haven't quite reached yet. I thought they might have been necessary for social links, but personas seem more important for that.

Certain social links won't initiate unless you have a specific level of a stat iirc.

But they don't play a huge role in finishing the game.

Uncle Ulty says:
Yes, if you don't max out your stats you will not be able to get all of the social links. Its pretty hard to do them all in one playthrough anyways though.

Uncle Ulty says:
It doesn't play a huge role in the normal ending, but I think you have to max them all to get to the true final boss and true ending. Also you can't get the top level Personas if you don't have the corresponding S-Link.

Wait, I need to max EVERY SOCIAL LINK for the real ending? Crap, I'm just now getting close to maxing one or two, some of them I haven't even met yet, and now I have to talk to those fossils about their tree all the time...

I thought there were only 2 endings based on the choice you make on December 31st or whatever?

Well I didn't max all the social links and I loved the ending I got so I wouldn't worry about it much Aku.

That final boss is a dick though.

That's all I knew about myself Strider. I'm curious what this extra ending is but I was happy with the one I got.

Uncle Ulty says:
Sorry for the confusion. There is no different ending for getting all the S-Links, but a secret boss that is very tough to beat.

As far as I'm aware, no. Maxing social links gives you some extra content, but doesn't change the ending.

Maxing your stats gives you access to more social links--as the female protagonist, you can't gain access to the Priestess, Empress, Justice, Temperance, Tower, Star, or Sun links without raising your stats at least a little. I believe raising your academics stat also helps with tests.

And if you want to max your social links, it's much easier on a second playthrough, since you can keep your social stats on a new game +. If you have the patience to play through the whole thing again, of course.

I think it may be impossible to get max on all S. Links on your first playthrough.

You would :)

According to various FAQs I've seen, it is possible, you just have to manage everything really well, have the right personae at the right time, and give the best answers to pretty nearly everything.

So a dog joined our team.

He's one level higher than me. Probably a sign I should grind a bit since the FREAKING DOG outranks me.

LOL

You can do a lot of grinding in one night at Tartarus. If you can beat the mid-floor bosses, you are pretty much ready for the full moon boss.

I think I remember hearing that PSP is a little different than P3 as far as how being tired in Tartarus works. Like how you can keep using people even when they are "tired" but I can't remember. I played the hell out of P3 and FES, but my best advice for you would be to create a Persona for your main that has all four elementals (I had a Lilim).

Sorry if I'm bumping the thread too much but I suck at this genre and new to the series. Also I like it more than I expected to, gotta thank Classy Game Girl or whoever it was that recommended it to me.

Currently at 122-ish in the tower. Will the Aigis social link just show up on its own or am I supposed to do something? Keeps saying she's too ignorant of humans to bond with.

Oh yeah, somewhere on Amazon some cat said Person 4's voice acting vanishes after a few hours: is that true or did he just mean the daily date/menial options like with P3P? The latter would be cool, but it'd suck if the story kept going and suddenly everyone's mute.

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 18, 2012 8:08:23 PM PDT
The Aigis SL isn't possible until the endgame, unfortunately.

I have no idea what he meant by the voice acting vanishing. The voice acting is as present throughout as P3's is.

Thanks again to those cats who offered their valuable wisdom so I wouldn't get curbstomped by another SMT game. Finished the main storyline, got a measly 10 social links maxed (three or four of which seem mandatory), became mildly bummed that (SPOILER I GUESS) my main character dies right when I could have started a life of banging Aigis because she clearly wanted it.

Not sure if I'll replay as a guy any time soon, because Tartarus REALLY felt like it could have been 150-200 floors instead of 260-something and I am sick of rescuing dumbasses who get lost in there. Very impressed though, new fan of the series and pretty hyped for the Vita version of P4 now.

Nice, Persona 4 is incredible as well, the dungeons are a lot less grind-heavy and more varied; though I liked Persona 3 more overall.
