Of this gen Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 and Super Meat Boy. Of all time? Probably Super Mario World.

Too many games to choose from for 2D platformers for me. Tie among NSMB Wii, Super Mario World, and Donkey Kong Country.
For 3D platformers, my favorite is Donkey Kong 64 with an honorable mention to the Spyro series.

This is a very tough question for me to answer as Platform is probably my favorite game genre, and there are so many good games in it.

WEll glad I ordered Rayman orgins looking forward to putting some time into that. I guess while its not the best anymore I gotta give some love to straight up SMB. First time in a video game there were so many "hidden" things to find among great gameplay.

Interesting. I thought that NSMBW was a fantastic single player game. I did find the multiplayer to be entertaining in spurts, but not really viable as a way to play through the whole game. Maybe I am just getting older, but I also found that figuring out the secrets and accessing hidden worlds and areas was tougher for me than it was in the old days.

My favorite thing about it was that the difficulty was pretty high. In some ways, higher than the old games. That is at least in part, though, because my Wii suffers from very frustrating delay on my HDTV

Do you have the component cables and everything set to 480p, 16:9, etc?

In reply to an earlier post on May 4, 2012 4:42:02 PM PDT
What component cables? I have modified my settings, but I am using the standard component cables that came with the Wii. Is there something else I should be using?

Component cables do not come with the system. Composite cables do. Do you have just a yellow cable for picture? Or do you have red, green and blue? If you don't have the latter, upgrade ASAP.

Insten® Premium Component Audio Video Cable compatible with Nintendo Wii / Wii U to HDTV EDTV, 4.67 feet [Nintendo Wii]

The cables that came with the system cannot do 480p, while the component cables can. It will sharpen the picture up and probably reduce the delay.

You know the more I think about it I have to say that I enjoyed Yoshi's Island more than Super Mario World overall.

The more I think about the more pissed I am Nintendo never put Yoshi's Island on Wii VC. Sometimes I really just hate Nintendo.

I'm assuming the reason behind that is the fact that they re-released it on the DS but I agree.

I have never been thrilled with Super Mario World. It's a good game and I played the f out of it but I always felt that SMB3 and Yoshi's Island were much better platformers.

I will go with Rayman origins, Super mario advance 4 (Game boy advance), and Rayman (first one)

I prefer Super Mario World over Super Mario Brothers 3 personally. Yoshi's Island was just really unique at the time it was released and had better level design, bosses, and overall variety in terms of gameplay.

Favorite Older Platformer: Yoshi's Island
Favorite Recent Platformer: Super Mario 3D Land
Most Nostalgia: the first SMB (but really tons of nostalgia for SMB 1, 2, 3 & Kirby's Adventure)

Like Ninstationbox says, the fact that you're trying to run 480p on cables that can only run 480i (the composite cables that came with the Wii) is probably why you're having problems. Grab some of those component cables ASAP. They're cheap and really make playing Wii on an HDTV a significantly better experience.

Thanks for the information, man. I appreciate it. I feel silly for not already knowinig this. Not as silly as Ninty should feel for not offering the ability to just use HDMI, though.

Either Spyro the Dragon or Ratchet & Clank 2: Going Commando. I've never been able to figure out which.

I grew up on Platformers & still enjoy them to this day- so I'll say the Super Mario Bros series. Follow by Mega Man. I also enjoyed Crash Bandicoot Warped.
