iTunes
iCloud
Google Drive

Suddenly you have more space than you know what to do with, and you can get 5 years of 20gb for the price of a 32gb memory card.

but
"well in your opinion which do you like better console or handheld or smartphone gaming" you can even go to PC gaming but answer the question which one do you like BEST

My iPad is a glorified web browser and my Vita is 20 bazillion times more portable than the giant square of an iPad.

I would argue that PC gaming definitely isn't what it used to be.

With each new game comes ridiculous DRM and the need to upgrade your rig every few years just to be able to play the games.

I have to agree with brh2010. God's honest truth, I just took a new job with required relocation. As such my traveling is going to triple if not more. I am looking into buying something to entertain me during my travels. Currently I am tossing around a 3DS/Vita or an iPad. The iPad actually has some good games and does much more than dedicated handhelds. Not too mention a 10 inch screen. I do think many people, including myself, would buy iOS games over dedicated for mobile entertainment. Though I have always wanted to play Spirit Tracks and Phantom Hourglass... so the debate goes on.

How old is the iPad/iPod Touch/iPhone? How many iterations do we have? Can I play the same game on my iPhone 4 as an iPhone 3GS? No. Think before you speak.

Not really, most people buy the wi-fi only model and a lot of places offer free wi-fi.

Good. Eventually we'll have the Taco Bell dining out situation from Demolition Man but with gaming. The highest quality game you can play will be Screen Swipe 14: The Swipening, Now With Extra Gyrotilts!

Can you play a Nintendo game on the Wii? No, not unless you buy it again on the VC.

OR

Can you play a 360 game on the Xbox? Again, no.

Yes, actually. You can.

Dedicated gaming isn't going anywhere, but it's foolish to completely write off the App Store/Play Market.

Nobody is doing that.

But that's a 10 year old game.

What is iOS bringing to the table that is comparable to what's coming out on the 3DS? Sure, ports of old classic games are nice (I'll be purchasing Final Fantasy Tactics one of these days for my iPhone), but games like Mass Effect: Infiltrator and Dead Space are more like inferior spin offs than anything else. In the meantime, I see my friend's 3DS and he has games like Super Mario 3D Land, Resident Evil: Revalations, Mario Kart, Kid Icarus, Devil Survivor: Overclocked....high quality titles with depth. Meanwhile, Infinity Blade looks great, but it's about as shallow of a game as you can get.

What I want to see out of iOS is original games built from the ground up with depth. Original stuff like Superbrothers: Swords and Sworcery. The Witness coming out later this year looks extremely cool (Jonathan Blow developed the game for touchscreen with iOS in mind, even though it's also coming out on PC). I don't want enhanced ports of old games or watered down verisons of modern console games. Bring some original, deep games to the table, and that is when iOS will be able to be mentioned in the same catagory as a 3DS when it comes to mobile gaming, or even a Vita once the games start coming (which they will).

That is the thing. When I am stuck in an airport I just need to waste time. I don't need Skyrim calibur of a game. Browsing online, play some simple fun games, watch a movie, check email, etc. Most airports offer free wifi, the iPad is a great time waster and has many options. I am thinking about getting one. So there is at least one person being taken from the mobile dedicated gaming market to the iOS market. Or potentially. Zelda is holding me back. I think the dedicated market is stable and healthy, but iOS will offer some competition.

"How would they convince anyone to drop $300+ on a new console and $60+ on a new game that you don't really own."

And how would Apple convince anyone to pay $300-900 on a new iPad to play games that they don't really own? In case you haven't noticed, the App Store runs on digital distribution only.

There are original games with depth on the market too. I was using GTA III because it's a PS2 game played with a controller and a deep control scheme at that which translated perfectly to the touch screen interface of the iPad.

"That is the thing. When I am stuck in an airport I just need to waste time."

So you specifically want worse games? I don't need to play Uncharted on lunch break either, I could jab myself in the neck with my pencil instead, but I'm happy I have the option to play Uncharted instead.

Ya, there are license transfers. But usually people don't own two of the same console.
