CLOSING COMMENTS
It's a shame that most will not have the wherewithal to endure the 20 or so hours of bad game to get to the really juicy story moments. The twists that are thrown are guaranteed to surprise. Unfortunately you'll need to wade through an often ugly, buggy, and poorly delivered mess to get to them. The good parts of the game just make the ugly ones stand out even more and though the plot is there, you have to trudge through a lot of mud to get any enjoyment out of it.

Presentation - 6.5
The story is the one thing that stands out in the game, but it's surrounded by lazy voice acting, and poorly textured environments.

Graphics - 3.5
The main characters have some impressive armor, but others look like little to no effort was put forth in their creation. Even characters from the television show are barely recognizable.

Sound - 4
Aside from the music track used in the HBO series, there's little else to remember here. Dialogue is delivered with little conviction at times and sounds will occasionally cut out.

Gameplay - 6
At moments it feels incredibly repetitive, but the combat keeps the intensity up by using slow-down to keep you on edge. There are also dialogue moments in the game that have you make major decisions that impact your outcome.

Lasting Appeal - 4
Aside from going back to an earlier save to see an alternate ending, there is little reason to return to the game. The only reason it will sit with you is if you finish all 15 chapters to see the surprising conclusion.

Final Score: 4 out of 10

Is this surprising to anyone? I'm surprised it got a 4.

Is IGN still trying to throw people off by giving 4s? How quaint.

I'll skip it, then. If it had gotten a 6 or 7, I might have been interested.

Looks like 4 is the magic number. GamesBeat is on metacritic with a 40. Here is the snippet...

"If there has ever been a grimmer, more depressing story in a game, we don't want to play it. Our heroes can find their way to four different endings, and they range in tone from "bleak and uncertain" to "horrific and hateful." Leading up to those endings, every awful thing that can possibly happen does."

There really is nothing about Game of Thrones that makes me think, WOW I really wish this was a video game.

Ouch.

Guess I'll pick it up used.

I'm glad I wasn't tempted into getting this by that art book. Love the Game of Thrones. Of course, with the backstory they have, it should make an incredible RPG. Too bad they made such a mess of it.

Dang, that stinks.

I'll probably get it at $20 depending on the luvrnadafighter review.

Sounds like these guys have never read or watched an episode of Game of Thrones because bleak, uncertain, horrific and hateful pretty much describes what it is.

With Diablo 3 and Max Payne 3 releasing the same day there was no way Game of Thrones was going to get a fair shake, i'm a huge fan of the source material so i'm still going to pick it up and form my own opinion.

Ice King says:
Yeah, the best thing about this show is you really can't be sure if a main character is going to die at any moment.
Most shows are constantly putting their major characters in life or death situations that you know they'll make it out of (or at the very least, die and come back somehow), but with Game of Thrones no one is safe.
They drove that point home hard toward the end of last season.

It's too bad the game isn't very good but not very surprising. TV to game adaptations tend to do even worse than movies. It makes me glad I cancelled my pre-order this weekend.

Well, to be fair, IGN said the story was the only good part of the game =p

Not true, gameplay got a 6 and actually sounds and looks pretty good to me. The biggest complaints seem to be graphics and sound/voice acting, two things that don't bother me one bit.

I'm still going to keep it when it arrives today and find out for myself. I'll slog through it for a week until Dragon's Dogma arrives. I'm not surprised at the scores though I had hoped for better...at least a 6 or 7.
