----------------

An 18-year old in Taiwan passed away after playing Diablo III for 40 hours straight with no food or rest (just like the title says!). That is just too long. You should take a break at LEAST every 20 hours. You don't jump off the high-dive right after pounding a hotdog, do you? Because I have. I cramped up and sunk like a rock and then a boy lifeguard had to kiss me on the mouth!

The Taiwanese teen booked himself into a private room in an internet cafe at lunchtime on Friday, according to reports.

He was left to play until Sunday morning, when a member of staff came to check on him and found him resting on the table.

Chuang then woke up, took a few steps and collapsed.

He was rushed to hospital, but died shortly after his arrival.

Obviously, this is sad news. But gaming, like burying your face in a women's bewbs and pretending you're a kid again, is an addiction. Except gaming can actually kill you. Motorboating will like, only make you pass out at the very worst. Rest in peace, bro.

That's just unreal. And it's always Taiwanese, Japanese, Chinese or Korean people that game themselves to death in internet cafes...

Look at the flip side...if the Zombie Apocalypse had occurred during the 40 hour span, that marathon D3 session could very well have saved that kid's life.

Well, he probably still would have died, but at least he got to play D3 for 40 hours straight instead of fending off zombies.

This isn't even the first time this has happened. It just might be the first for Diablo 3. The plague known as Diablo 2 took many lives.

Well, it should say it "can be" and addiction. I think it was trying to be funny anyway, saying that the author has an addiction to motorboating.

I've got it all on lock lol. I spend far too much day dreaming about the end of the world.

And it just irks me when I see those claims regardless of what the person is saying they are addicted to. I've got addicts in my family, dealt with it growing up, and I don't deal with a good chunk of my family becase of this. Whenever I see someone who is "addicted" to shopping, or gaming, or social networking, or something like that I just want to see them actually experience an addiction and come back making the same claims.

I'm 99.9% sure most who say they are addicted to nonchemical stuff like gaming would much rather have to put the controller down and go to work (this is also way easier) than to put the needle down and stop scratching your flesh off your body.

Did it say what he died of? It's unusual for a kid his age, but maybe his long-term lack of activity formed a thrombosis which lead to a stroke once he got up and started moving. Hell, maybe his death was completely unrelated to sitting down and playing Diablo. For all we know he had an aneurysm. I haven't heard of many people dying of lack of food and water after only 40 hours...unless the person is already in a severe state of malnourishment or has been weakened in some other fashion.

@ Keiji: It looks like we found your "button" (I have a few of them too, ha ha). I think most people use addiction as a hyperbolic statement rather than a factual one. Like saying "I almost died when I heard him say that". Because of your experience with true addicts, though, you'll forever be intolerant of its use in that way, and I can understand that.
