Can Wii U replicate the record-breaking success of the Wii?

That's the question gripping the industry at the moment following the console's North American launch at the weekend and the upcoming UK arrival next week.

But there's certainly no doubt from 2K Games president Christoph Hartmann who in an interview with MCV has expressed his unwavering belief in the power of Nintendo.

"Nintendo always impresses and surprises me," he said. "The team there has so much knowledge built up over many, many years. Nintendo always finds its crowd.

"There have been people doubting the Wii U because they don't really understand it. I wasn't sure about the Wii and I was proved wrong, proved wrong by my own people, which I like the most because we sold a lot of Carnival Games. I believe the Wii U offers something special and we will be surprised how consumers will get attached.

"There's nothing in my body, not a single piece, doubting that the Wii U will be successful."

The full interview with Hartmann can be read in this week's issue of MCV that will arrive both in mailboxes and online tomorrow.

Nintendo is like Disney, they have a strong following of loyal customers based on mascot characters. Of course Nintendo will be successful with the U. :)

JWK says:
Actually, there have been at least a couple "full GTA" games on Nintendo handhelds. But I don't see what that has to do with anything; Rockstar makes GTA, not 2K.

Portables are consoles. You should have said "home" console, that would have prevented the misunderstanding. :)

Also rumor has it Bioshock and GTA VI are both headed to the Wii-U. Personally my interest level is low. I think GTA is grossly overrated and the same goes for Bioshock. If anything I want Skyrim, using the tablet for a map and quick magic select. This could make navigation and battles for more exciting.

Probably. But I was referring to Doubting Thomas.

Now I'm googling to see if anyone's last name has ever been Penis.

"There's someone named Thomas Penis?"

That was his name in the old country. When he got to America they changes his name to Tom Dick. He and his best friend Harry Sach were so popular back in the thirties that they were everywhere in the New York social scene. That's where the expression "Tom Dick and Harry" came from.

This reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Lisa is sulking over the fact the church has placed advertisements and amenities in the sanctuary, so they put her up on the newly christened Jumbo-Tron with her being named "Pouting Thomas".
