Dude, did you look at the patent? There is a frame that shows 'Best Brand Soda' with the tag line- You've Got to Try It!

Aw, Brickery deleted his posts... you know, the ones he made after he posted he was leaving the VGF.

Wow. This is a horrible idea and as much as I don't want it to come true, I have no doubt this is what we have in store next gen (possibly even this gen?).

This had better only be for free-to-play games.

I like the part about how it rewinds the "interactive content" after the ad ends. It will be fun rewinding back into a boss battle I just finished.

If that happens, I am out. I am not going to buy a console that pauses my game to show me ads. Throw in long system updates/game patch files and we are headed for ... well, they figured out how to get us to spend less time playing.

C.W. says:
Yep. I agree. I'll just go back and buy a bunch of old games and keep playing the ones I already own and love.

What do you think about Sony's patent for suspending gameplay to show us ads? Would you like to see this feature in the next PlayStation home console?

Sisyphus says:
I blame people. If they just weren't so dumb, they wouldn't go out and buy whatever the ad was. Unfortunately, ads work. Brought to you by Carl's jr.

Do I look like an xbox fan?

Since when has the Xbox suspended gameplay to show us ads?

On a side note, anybody remember the ads that used to be in Wipeout HD?

vishock says:
this is most likely just for free content, such as free games/demos on PSN, etc. since Sony is losing money and going down slowly, i think they are trying their best to find ways to make additional money.

To be honest, I wouldn't mind if Sony offered an ad-supported version of a game for free. Say Little Big Planet 3. I just hope that they don't try this crap in a paid game. I doubt Sony would do that but this patent is not reassuring.

I'm sure they're just patenting the idea so nobody else can do it. I have faith in teh Sony. They don't even charge for connecting to the Internet that I pay for.

"I'm sure they're just patenting the idea so nobody else can do it."

That is not necessarily why a company would want a patent. It could also be Sony wants to collect checks from any other company that wants to suspend gameplay to show ads.

Sisyphus says:
Oh yeah, that's what I meant. They want to cash in on all the ads that Microsoft forces onto their customers.
