"Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is coming out on January 22, 2013 for the PlayStation 3. For those of you who are somehow still on the fence about picking this one up, Namco has revealed the pre-order bonuses from GameStop and Amazon.

If you pre-order from GameStop (US or Canadian stores), you'll be given an exclusive SteelBook case with alternate artwork. That's neat, I guess, but doesn't compare to the Amazon pre-order where you'll get the exclusive Griffy familiar, seen in the image above.

This creature wasn't actually in the original Japanese version of the game, so it really is an exclusive here. Griffy can spot enemies that are far away, and has attacks like "Phantom Fangs" and "Petrifying Puff." Griffy can also evolve into stronger forms, called Griffurance, and The Griffrigerator.

Griffrigerator? Really? I'm imagining a refrigerator with a hawk head on top of it with a name like that."

I might have to shell out the extra 10 bucks at gamestop to get that case, hopefully the familiar will be DLC eventually.

So is this one better than the one being sold straight from the developer's website?

I don't know, it's basically the same as the ACIII steel case, but with different art of course.

I'm not willing to spend the case for the wizard edition, so this will be a nice replacement.

Jawwaad says:
Do you think they'll give you the Steelcase as soon as you preorder like they did with AC III

Definitely not better than the Wizard's Edition, but some nice bonuses. :)

Hey Classic. I guess I'll stick with the Wizard's Edition

Meh, Wizard's Edition still blows the preorder bonuses out of the water.

Jawwaad says:
Yeah J. I misunderstood at first thinking that this was another special edition rather than just pre order bonuses

Thanks! I will just get the Wizard Editon. I couldn't look it up cause I'm at work, but by the way the other guy was making it sound, it seemed as if it was around $200. I will def get it at $99

The Wizard's Edition is $99 but once you include tax and shipping it's closer to $120.

Boo, I like the sound of Griffy. The Wizard Edition should include all preorder bonuses for that price, I say. Booo Namco - don't compete with yourself!

Well, it's 2012, all this DLC will probably be available for purchase shortly after release. =p

In Game DLC > fancy packaging

Amazon is getting my $.

Pfft, it's the opposite for me.

I want something tangible.

I really want the book but it's the only interest I have in the wizard edition at the moment and unfortunately not worth another ~$60 to me. I wish there was an update on what might be added to that option.

Chocolette says:
It's just the princple of it! The Wizard Edition is a preorder, too, isn't it?!

In reply to an earlier post on Aug 6, 2012 6:43:49 AM PDT
Indeed. You can always buy that DLC (or if you're me, not buy it), but you won't be able to get that steelbook after the preorder.

I'm exactly in the same boat. But I get a feeling I'll be getting the Wizard Edition as the deadline nears.

StriderNeo15 says:
Maybe this is the stuff you'll get if you reach those pre-order levels, well just have to wait and see.

It also depends on the DLC. A lot of the pre-packaged DLC is largely forgettable in the long run. I would have been perfectly happy playing Mass Effect 2 without the Firewalker missions, Normundy Crash Site... Borderlands 2 tacking on a 5th playable class on the other hand I'm 100% on board with that.
