2008: Holy crap! Mega Man 9?! Capcom's being overly generous here B)
2010: Wow! There's a Mega Man 10! I guess they really are bringing the series back!
2011: WHAT?! Mega Man Legends 3 is canceled?! And why's there Zero in Marvel vs Capcom 3, but no Mega Man?
2012: Mega Man....Where are you now? It's been 2 years since MM10, and there's no MM11, let alone any other game in the series as a whole announced.

See what I'm trying to point out?

Keji Inafune quit Capcom and the series is in a tailspin because of it.

DVvM says:
Without Inafune, the series is pretty much done. At best MM will pull a "Sonic", which may be more bad than good.

It sad that Capcom is treating MM this way. After all, this series was that company's 1st cash cow before Street Fighter II came along. I've been playing the 2 MM collections for the PS2 (I've never really MM prior to buying them a couple of months back) & I miss games like these.

Sadly, it's about money. Mega Man 9 sold well, which is why we got Mega Man 10. Mega Man 10 did not sell well, which is why we're not getting Mega Man 11.

Legends was cancelled, not out of a desire to do disservice to a popular character, but out of the belief that it just wouldn't sell. Mascot games used to be the biggest thing in video games, but they're pretty much all gone now (except for those in Nintendo's stable.)

Don't forget the insult they've piled upon the franchise with this monstrosity. Fat, middle-aged Mega Man in Street Fighter X Tekken.

I'd love to a nice collector's set for Mega Man with all the games included, a statue, and a hard cover book all encased in a nice collector's box.

Meh. Mega Man is the Dark Souls of platforming. Casual gamers aren't into the constant punishment that Mega Man dishes out in spades. The 4,000th time I got attacked while jumping over a pit and was subsequently knocked back into said pit was enough for me. While it is one of the most memorable series I've ever played, I can't get back into it. I suspect I'm not alone.

I want to enjoy it; I just don't.

Maybe if they made a MM RPG or tactics game... Or even an 8-bit MMO!

It's also worth noting that platformers not starring Mario aren't exactly huge sellers these days anyway. Rayman Origins was beautiful, and quite possibly among the best 2D platformers ever, but it really fell on its face last holiday season.

*whistles* Guys! If you have a Nintendo 3DS and access to the Nintendo eShop you can buy and download Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge.
I haven't played it myself ....yet. I'm sending my system in for repairs. The SD reader/writer slot isn't working.

This statement makes me sad, but it's truth. Mega Man is, perhaps, dead.

I could see him getting periodic resurrections, but those don't always go well.

Dead is a relative term here... Not speaking about the termination of any games in the series, just of any TRUE games in the series. :(

Been meaning to get around to playing Command Mission. It's evidently good if you're a diehard fan. Think I might dustoff the Wavebird and play it on my Wii.

I never played a Mega Man game. Were the PS2 games also side-scrollers?
Btw, I didn't realize Rayman O was a poor seller, but I should have known based on the early price drop. It got such great reviews, I figured people would snap it up.

Apparently a small group of people around here aren't Brentalfloss fans. Oh the sad lives they must live...

Most of the PS2 ones, yeah. The anniversary collections for both Mega Man and MMX collect together the sidescrollers involved. The one I mentioned above, Command Mission, is a Final Fantasy style turn based RPG.

I'd be downvoting people left and right too if I had to watch Nintendo get it right while Sega got it wrong.

We got a free SD TV over the weekend from one of my wife's friends. I can finally play some retro stuff without it looking like crap on an HD widescreen tv. I've been playing the Mega Man X Collection (PS2) and it looks phenomenal. Mega Man (Classic and X) is my favorite VG series after Castlevania. And even as big of a fanboy as I am of the games, I honestly think it's time for Capcom to give it a rest. Some may remember that the video game edition of Guinness Book of World Records named Mega Man as the character that's appeared in the most video games... yes, even more than Mario. Capcom has destroyed this guy. If they want to do a proper Mega Man retro game every once in a while, that's cool. But the yearly installments of Star Force and Battle Network? That crap had to stop and I'm happy it did.

I must be the only person who loved MM1 and MM2, but got bored after that.
