First of all, I'm loving the newly-added backgrounds. The game looks better than it ever has. Plus, it has the same save system as the Japanese version (which was on the Famicom Disk System), which is a plus.

But then it just goes down to the gameplay. This game is hard! I remember playing it as a kid and breezing through it. I think I'm just getting old.

I think your memory may be faulty. I downloaded the VC version when I was in college, and that game is crushing. Grind, grind, grind for those hearts.

I love what they do to the 3D Classics. Both this and Kirby look amazing. I'd love to see them do the same for Mario games.

But yup, this game is brutally difficult. Even when I was a kid, this game was still insanely hard.

I've tried this game, not the 3D version, but Kid Icarus on NES several times, and I never thought it to be a good game. I don't understand the love affair with this game. Some people regard it as one of the best games on the NES, and that baffles me.

I wish I could bring myself to open my 3DS.

Did you close it with Superglue or something? Is it in a vice that you can't open, or a locker you lost the key too? Why is it so hard to open your 3DS?

A different handheld is keeping all my attention, but I'm embarrassed to admit why.

One of my favorite Gameboy games is Barbie: Game Girl.

Your turn.

Does it start with "FL" and end in "eshlight"?

Hints: if you go to the menu screen you can pull up the manual and find out what things...do. Like the barrel that's for sale for like 550 hearts. It took me embarrassingly long to discover this.
And Less Crushingly Difficult Mode! If you select this, Pit will fall slower when you have the jump button pressed down so landing on single-square ice platforms kills you less often. It also puts autofire on your arrows by default, no need for a third-party controller. ;)

...the original american version didn't have save files? Yikes.

The American version used bulky passwords instead of saving. Like Metroid.

It's a REALLY hard game, but if you level up early on, it becomes cake later. It's also one of the few games that I appreciate MORE now than I did when I first played it.
