I know this topic has been done before but recently I've been on a quest to find the best burger I can find near me.

Also what is the deal breaker for you when it comes to burgers? For me there are several ways to mess up a burger and it's always sad. The worst is a burger with absolutely no seasoning, I've been to places where I don't think they even add salt and that's just wrong. Next is a cold bun (shows they don't even try) and third is bad fries.

Five Guys

We have a fancy place here than serves the best jalapeno and cheese burger.

As for chain burgers, I'd probably say Five Guys, but I can't eat fast food chain burgers without it making me sick, so I tend to stay far, far away from fast food.

Carls, Jr.

Five Guys all the way.

They give you enough fries to feed a small African village.

Five Guys, no question. The fries are awesome, but those burgers man, I swear they put crack in there.

I'm pretty accepting of most burgers, where I draw the line is with the fries.
I really don't like those fries more and more places use lately. They're like Burger King's fries only thicker. I call them "Butt Fries" and if a place uses them I usually don't come back.

Yeah, it's like they're daring America to get even fatter. When you order a small they throw about two more cups into the bag. If you order a large you get almost half a bag full. It's insane.

To which I say, Challenge accepted!

Fresh cut like Five Guys. There's a place near my house that does them even better but I would definitely say fresh cut is the way to go.
If you have to use frozen, then anything except those Butt Fries is acceptable.

I often feel I know what I'll be getting for the burger based on what I see on the fries. If the fries are well seasoned, perfectly crispy but not burned or blackened it shows the place is willing to take that bit of extra work to get it done right.

As far as Chains go, Carl's Jr. Will always win in my mind. I love their burgers and i LOOOVE their fries... crispy and no salt mmmmm delicious.

As for non-chains. I have a local place that makes Steamed Cheeseburgers that are simply beyond amazing.

And cheaper than most chains.

BTW if your in the Boston area here is what I've found to be the best so far.

Mr. Bartley's - Normally I'd avoid mentioning the hyped up place but they do earn their reputation
Toro - Way better than a spanish Tapas place should be. Also get it with their grilled corn, trust me on this
The Publick House - Good burger, better beer list.
Charlie's Kitchen - Best I'm drunk and I'm not leaving the bar burger.

Never had it so I cannot defend or attack it.

Here in DC Elevation burger is a really good chain. I don't even put anything on the fries they're so good.

my personal favorite burger is from the cheesecake factory. i forget what it is called, but its pretty much onion rings, bacon, and bbq sauce. delicious.

The cheesecake factory scares me. No menu should be that big.

take the Bacon off that and I'll eat that in a heartbeat.
