that's what corporations do. internet just makes it easier. data mining for trend forecasting. rather than having to hire a crew to analyze every footprint you make in the mall or full access to all your physical shopping receipts, the internet has it all in quantifiable/manipulable form from the start and they just have to organize a software/algorithm to scoop it up like fish in a barrel.

while they won't affect the kind of tracking done in the OP you can use these for your own data trails.

For FireFox:
1) NoScript
2) AdBlockPlus
3) Better Privacy
4) Collusion
5) DoNotTrackPlus
6) Ghostery

I hate it when Facebook suggests "people I may know". Especially that time it suggested an ex-girlfriend of mine for about a week straight. We also shared no mutual friends or anything. I'm like "How the hell is that even possible!?"

If that worries you then don't go to any websites. My webhost shows the IP addresses of whoever visits, their IP address, their ISP, what time they visited, what they looked at, how much time they spent on each page, their OS, their browser, whether they came from a search engine query, who is linking back to me, etc.

every time you have a thought they will be able to track them and stream related advertisement into the middle of the thought as it occurs.

I'm thinking Arby's. They need to figure out a way to stream roast beef into the middle of my stomach.
