After a few people have mentioned wanting a Team Fortress 2 event and did nothing after I recommended that they go ahead and start one, I started one.

Copied, pasted, and modified from the event page:
"On Saturday, 8/11/12, please drop whatever you're doing and play some TF2 with your fellow VGFers. If you are to play any game Saturday, let it be this. Event lasts all day, and if you see someone playing something else, feel free to ridicule them until they put you on ignore and/or start playing TF2 instead (you can set your status to offline to avoid this while all Steam features not related to chat will remain operational).

If you insist on not playing a free to play game for one lousy day, at the very least use the group chat feature during the event (all day Saturday).
For those of you who do not know already, you can join the group chat room either by clicking the arrow next to the VGF group in the group tab of the friends list and selecting "Join group chat room," or click use the "Enter chat room" link on the right side of the VGF group page, or click on "# in chat" at the top of the VGF group page. For those of you who prefer voice chat, I recommend creating a separate room by clicking the arrow next to someone's name and selecting "Send message..." and then click the arrow on the box that pops up and select "Start voice chat" and then you can invite other people who want to join in by selecting "Invite to chat room" after clicking the arrow next to their name. This way, people who do not want to hear voices while playing games will not have to, and people who do can. Be sure to keep the VGF group chat tab open as well (Steam allows access to multiple rooms at once) so that you'll still be able to receive messages from people not in your special little voice chat room.

3Fox will not provide prizes for this event."

Cool, I should have some free time in the afternoon and will definitley drop in. I've never played this before, so I suck, so have mercy on me.

I'll definitely be there for at least a part of it. Saturdays are the time when I really get to see my real life friends, so no guarantees about amount of time there, but I'll definitely try to drop in.

Assuming my monitor doesn't freak out (which has been killing my BF3 time), I will play. Otherwise I will be playing Skyrim, so don't ridicule me ; ;

FV says:
Yeah but what if we suck something awful? Won't we be subject to more ridicule than by playing a different game?

If everyone sucks, it would be hypocritical to ridicule someone else who is sucking. I mean, n00bz cant call other n00bz n00bz. Right?

You must be new to the internet...

Lol kidding. Yeah it would. I'd be interested in getting some play time into this game. I have it installed, but all the Valve MP games are pretty intimidating since everyone is so good.

I generally view weekends as "friends and family time" and will likely spend no more than 1 hour playing. However, I don't think it would work out as well if I picked a weekday, as not everyone is home and up for group gaming at the same time of day due to work, so I picked a weekend to give maximum opportunity for multiple people to be on at the same time, whenever that time happens to be. I picked noon east coast time since that was the default and it would keep the even on the "upcoming events" page for most of the day (in other words, I'm lazy and decided the default was good enough).

Ah, I just saw the noon time and thought "Man thats too early".

I'll have to redownload TF2 lol. I should be on a bit Saturday, though my Dungeon Defenders addiction might make it hard to play TF2 for too long lol. Finally got a decent strategy for running Insane Ramparts HC Survival. Start seeing myths drop around wave 22. Was soooooo angry last night, just finished wave 24, and boom TrendyNet goes down to put the Jester class in.

Btw, anyone that has Dungeon Defenders the Jester class is free until August 22nd, so might want to hop on that while you can.

I may try the game out today or tomorrow to see. I'm not very good at games where you try to shoot things that are moving around though, lol. I am very good at dying however, so there is that.

In reply to an earlier post on Aug 9, 2012 5:55:38 AM PDT
Yeah, I pretty much suck at TF2, but I learned that I'm not horrible at the Pyro, though I do die alot, I tend to just suicide in a TON.

Of course this is happening the day I move and won't have internet...

A while back I found out I'm terrible at TF2 so I never installed it on my new PC.

Sure, I create an event and everyone's all "we want TF2 instead." Then when I make the event TF2, suddenly everyone's all "I suck at TF2" or "I can't play at that time." There's just no pleasing you people.

I'd play if my computer could run TF2 :P

If I wasn't moving that day and uprooting my life I'd be all over this kicking ass and taking names.

What do you mean you people?

In reply to an earlier post on Aug 9, 2012 6:31:13 AM PDT
Hey, I never said I wouldnt play. If I'm on, I'll be there, I was just warning everyone I sucked and that the original time is a little early. Since you said it was an all day thing if I'm able to get on I'll be up for TF2. But the original time set is like noon here, I normally dont even wake up till like 1pm on Saturdays :P

...Think I could DL and run this easily on Ubuntu 12.04?

In reply to an earlier post on Aug 10, 2012 5:18:47 AM PDT
Well, looks like I may be over there anyway. My wife is headed off to an event with our lady friends in the evening and a good friend of mine just got his very own Laptop so I may drag him along with me.

Pyro and Medic are the two best ways to learn the game. Heavy's not bad either.

In reply to an earlier post on Aug 10, 2012 5:20:44 AM PDT
If you can get it to work on that program for running Windows games, maybe? Valve is working on porting their games to Linux, and I bet TF2 is probably gonna be the first one available.

In reply to an earlier post on Aug 10, 2012 5:23:44 AM PDT
Yeah, the Heavy is just waaaaaay too slow for me. I played around with medic as well but I dunno I didnt care for it that much. Pyro was a ton of fun and easy to learn IMO.

In reply to an earlier post on Aug 10, 2012 5:25:32 AM PDT
Pyro's hella fun. Just remember, the trick with him isn't to run the enemy down until either of you is dead. You can just light him up and vanish. Be a ghost. The Pyro specializes at ambush tactics.

Also on Nucleus, a King of the Hill map, you can use the compression blast to knock people off the capture point and into a bottomless pit. lol
