I noticed this on Netflix the other day and decided to watch a couple of episodes.

The people on this show either have some serious issues or the show is staged like those pawn shop shows.

One of the guys went to a bakery to buy a cake and tried to negotiate the price down by ordering it without frosting, bringing in his own ingredients, and asking them to use leftover ingredients at the end of the day.
He was just an irritating person.

Lol, sounds like he should just make his own cake.

It feels like its setup fake. I saw a couple episode before and this lady has money but she goes dumpster diving for food then invites her fam over for lunch and everyone eats starting to mold cake.
I do like the one where the wife turns off the water on the husband when he's in the shower if he goes over 5 minutes. He was still all soapy, that was funny.

I haven't watched it, but my gf told me there was an episode where a dude pees in a jar and uses his urine to water his garden. Pretty neat.

Doesn't urine kill most plants you'd want in a garden?

From some article about the show:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/02/victoria-hunt-extreme-cheapskates_n_1933287.html

You think you know cheap? Meet Victoria Hunt, 51, of Columbus, Ohio. She is so cheap that she urinates in a bottle and then empties it in her garden, a move she estimates shaves a couple dollars off her monthly water bill.

"I am also an avid gardner and I read that urine is a component [for a compost]," said Hunt, who is featured in the upcoming TLC series "Extreme Cheapskates."

But Hunt isn't cheap because she's poor. In fact, Hunt is self-made millionaire who owns several houses and has stock and other investments. She retired from her career as an accountant at age 48, and now her primary income comes from her rental properties. Still, she lives on just $12,000 per year, including bills, groceries and even health insurance.

I don't think you should exclusively water your plants with urine but peeing on or around gardens is quite common if you want to keep other animals out.

Peeing around gardens isn't the same as watering the plants with urine, though.

I wonder if he washes the plants after if they are vegetables. He wants to conserve water so I can't see him doing so.

That's what I was thinking when I watched it.
You can get the ingredients for a cake for about $5. Probably less if you're as cheap as this guy claimed to be.

I guess maybe there's nitrogen in it? That's part of plant food I think.

Miracle Grow is pretty cheap though. Well worth the indignity of handling one's own urine daily.

You can go to Walmart and buy cake mix and frosting for under $3, and it tastes better than bakery cake. You might need vegetable oil and 2 eggs too.

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 7, 2013 8:39:36 AM PST
Did you know that urine is sterile? You can drink it.

J. Pardee says:
Maybe if you are buying a cake from Walmart's bakery than the cake mix would be better. If it's from a real bakery I doubt a premade cake mix would be better.

I honestly don't like bakery cake from anywhere, but maybe I haven't been to a real bakery...

J. Pardee says:
I haven't ever really liked the cakes from store bakeries but if the cake is from an actual bakery they can be really good. I never go to the real bakeries though as it's much cheaper to just make a cake myself. Last time I made one it came to probably close to $20 though with all the buttermilk and cream cheese it had in it.

That Emu Kid says:
I believe the nitrogen in it is too concentrated for some plants. Obviously there are plenty of plants that are resilient animal urine, but those aren't the ones that look pretty in a garden.

But is it necessary?

I saw one episode the guy met a girl for a date and he took the paper plates they ate on, cleaned them up with a napkin and took that the plastic silverware etc back home to re-use

Did anybody see the article about the dude who's selling his nut to medical research for $35K? True story. I'd love to look it up but I think my work would frown on me searching "man nuts for sale"

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 7, 2013 9:07:05 AM PST
I would have kicked that man out of my shop.
