I have been looking for a good venue on which to sell a dozen or so reel to reel tapes I have, but without much success. Amazon doesn't seem to recognize the format. Neither does GEMM. Does anybody know (besides eBay or craigslist) where I can sell them? P.S. I'm a collector / dealer, am not letting them go cheap.

Hi Richard, I am looking to sell about a dozen reel to reel tapes from the 60's. Were you ever able to find a place to sell them besides ebay or craigslist?

Richard says:
Sorry, no. Good luck.

Thanks Richard. I will probably end up putting them on Craigslist after doing enough research to make sure I get a good price for them.

Tom Leonard says:
Think about the Classified section of your major news paper under musical and collectables for those real to real tapes, how could you loose? and refer to your recorded music on tape by artist and type/ect ect. of music. I've found this to be so in our Wichita Eagle. Craigslist and E bay is not your only sorce to start with.

What do you have? I might be interested.

The tapes I have are:

Moby Grape - Truly Fine Citizen
Leonard Cohen - Songs from a Room
Marty Robbins - Gunfighter Ballads
Hank Williams - Greatest Hits
Theodore Bikel - On Tour
Illinois Speed Press - (self-titled)
Mungo Jerry - (self-titled)
Chuck Berry - Golden Hits
Ella Fitzgerald - Gershwin Song Book v2 (w/ booklet)
Youngbloods - Elephant Mountain

The cases are slightly damaged (splits and/or stains) on the Williams, Robbins and Fitzgerald pieces. There is no playlist label on the Williams reel. These probably deserve a G rating (maybe F on the Williams). The other cases are somewhat shelf worn but the reels look good, so I would rate each of the those at perhaps VG or VG+.

If interested make an offer. And since Amazon doesn't seem to be interested, we can move to eBay/Paypal to complete any deals.

The tapes I have are:

Simon & Garfunkel - Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme (Columbia CQ 1017)
Johnny Mathis - Johnny's Greatest Hits (Columbia CQ 1035)
Sinatra-Basie - An Historic Musical First (Reprise S9-1008)*
Al Hirt - Latin in the Horn/Soul in the Horn (double album/ IPS 3 3/4)(RCA TP3 5030)*
The Electric Prunes - Underground (Reprise RS-6262)
The Kinks - The Live Kinks (Reprise RST 6260-C)
Dean Martin - Somewhere There's A Someone (Reprise RST 6201-C)*
The Mitchell Trio - Alive (Reprise RST 6258-C)
Golden Hits Series - The Best of Billy Vaughn (Dot Records DLP 25811-C)
Judy Collins - Who Knows Where Time Goes (Elektra EKC 4033)
The Billy Vaughn Singers - I Love You (Dot Records DLP 25813-C)
Harry Belafonte - Belafonte on Campus/Calypso in Brass (double album/ IPS 3 3/4)(RCA TP3-5032)(the case on this has been blacked out with marker by someone but the tape reel is good)*
The Beatles (Equivalent to two stereo discs/ IPS 3 3/4)(Apple Y2WB-101)

All reels are 7 1/2 IPS unless stated different above. All the cases are in good condition (except the Harry Belafonte, which I mentioned above), but a little shelf worn. The ones marked with an * after their listing have the initials DEO either on the case or on the label inside. All the reels have their original labels on them. The tape for all 13 reels appear to all be in excellent condition, although I am not able to test them.

I also have an empty case from The Righteous Brothers - Sayin' Something (Verve VSTC-5010) but the reel is gone and the case has a few scratches and indentations on it.

Let me know if you are interested. I have only done some initial research on the Beatles album and I found that the Apple reels were the last albums to be put on reel format in 1969. I will be doing a bit more research on the other albums, but I am in the middle of packing to move and will not have internet after the 15th, until about the 21st. If I don't answer right away, that is why. Thanks!

NightRyder says:
M. Fernando - The Beatles one would be something I'd be interested in. Do you have a price in mind, there's 1 copy on Ebay right now.

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 8, 2011 2:00:33 PM PST
I haven't got a set price in mind, but I can say that both the cover and the label on the reel are in much better condition than the one on eBay. I can provide pictures for you if you want. The seller on eBay is asking $19.99 starting bid and buyer pays shipping, insurance (if wanted), return shipping (if needed), etc. So I am not really sure what is a good price.

The research I did said that it would sell for between $20-60 depending on the condition. My copy is in better condition than the one on eBay, but I wouldn't expect to get $60 unless it was in pristine condition and sealed in the factory wrapper! What do you think you might be willing to pay? I would expect you to pay shipping, but I would offer a money back guarantee if there were anything wrong with the tape and it didn't play properly.

How does $30 plus shipping sound? I assume Paypal would be OK?

KBIC says:
Amazon doesn't recognize the lazerdisc or VHS formats either but they are still for sale here on Amazon and on Ebay too. There is obviously a way to sell media that is not being made anymore. I am not a seller though so I am not worried about how to. I think that most folks just put the format in front of the name. For example: Reel-to-reel name of band - name of album

NightRyder-I might be interested, just really busy packing for the move and not on the computer much. I move tomorrow and once we get all settled, then I will be able to devote a bit more attention to this issue. Thanks for your patience.

I am still selling mine. I just moved in mid-December, then got the flu over the holidays. I am finally unpacked fully and I have my reel-to-reel accessible. If you are interested in any from my list, please let me know. Thanks.
