Metabolife/diet pills almost ruined my body

I took metabolife for almost a year or so when I was 19. I went from a size 12/14 to a size 8-10. I had tons of energy, and no appetite. I was the thinnest I have been in my life.

But then, the pills made me feel sick. I was getting shakey, nauseas, irritable. Besides you can't take diet pills forever.

So I stopped.

And then I gained weight. Alot. I could not stop gaining weight. Every year I was gaining 30+ pounds. My metabolism must have slowed dramatically. I could not walk more than a block without getting tired. I dreaded climbing just 1 flight of stairs! I was falling asleep at work. And gained so much weight, so fast, I had stretch marks all over my stomach, arms and legs.

In all, I gained 80 pounds before my body started to turn around. 80 pounds in 3 years. I became the heaviest I ever was, and ever should be.

Now, at 25, I am down to a size 10 again, but am left with the stretch marks and extra flab from the severe gain. And worse, the memories of feeling lazy, depressed, and house bound for those early years of my 20s.

Do not use diet pills, especially metabolife. There are other ways of loosing weight that are much safer. There are tons of great tips for modifying your diet and lifestyle to lead to permanent weight loss.

It wasn't the Metabolife, it only has caffiene. It was lack of exercise and whole raw foods. Too much simple sugars, fat, chemicals, stress.

I was not going to take anything for the rest of my life, and coming off of something again was not an option!

As a nurse I decided to put treat myself as I would someone else. I always swore that I could write books on losing weight, but couldn't do it myself. This time would be different.

I tried to put into practice all of those horrible things that you don't want to do. 1 - I cut out junk food. 2 - I cut out white flour, sugar, and saturated fats (no 4 legged animal products). 3 - I learned to read labels and look for bad things like the above and high fructose corn syrup. 4 - No diet ANYTHING! (Stevia or agave nectar make wonderful sugar substitutes from natural sources). 5 - Calorie control. According to my resources I keep between 1200 to 1500 calories per day and break up my food into 3 meals and 2 snacks. I ALWAYS carry my own healthy 100 - 200 calorie snacks with me - not the Nabisco 100 calorie packs of chemicals,either. I take dried fruit,nuts, triscuits, and LARABARS. 6 - (the worst thing of all!) START exercising! I started with dumbbell weight lifting in my pajamas in the morning for 30 minutes and walking for 30 minutes every evening. 6 - the most important of all - STICK WITH IT AND NEVER EVER GIVE UP!

I didn't win any awards for rapid weight loss, and I cried plenty of tears over that, but in 9 months I did go from a size 16 and vowing to never wear a dress again to size 8 jeans or size 10 dress and having everyone (unprompted) tell me emphatically how stunning I look today! And yes, if the truth be told, my skin does sag. In stead of being depressed about it I wear my skin as my badge of honor reminding myself every day of the war that I have won! I was the battleground, and I was also the victor! Thanks to exercising, I am wearing clothes 1-2 sizes smaller than I deserve to! At 155 before I would wear a solid size 12, and couldnt wear straight dresses or skirts because I was so horribly pear shaped. Now I am accused of having a tiny butt! I can sit in chairs and see the edges of the chair around me. And let me tell you, tying your own shoes WHILE they are on your feet is definitely NOT overrated!

It has been over a year now that I have been able to maintain this weight. I am thankful every single day that I found the courage to NOT GIVE UP! And during the process it would have been SO EASY to give up, but at 205 pounds, I do not believe that I was at my top weight yet! And that was a thought that I could not bear to deal with. It was much easier for me to continue on my struggle/journey than it would have been to mentally handle the weight gain again.

The things that helped me are just every day things that we have all heard over the years: Junk food is just that! Watch out for saturated fats in your diet. Don't mindlessly eat. Plan your food intake for the day. Get some exercise each day. YOU: ON A DIET by Dr. Oz was probably the biggest help for me. Watching THE BIGGEST LOSER even today reinforces to me what I know I have to do. Sometimes even those guys don't lose a pound in a week! You just have to learn to be patient with your body. I even found YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT on TV on BBC America channel. She is a bit extreme, but also gets her point across that there is no substitute for healthy living.

I still would like to meet my goal weight of 135 pounds, but for now I am ever so grateful to be my much wanted size 8 at 155. I know I need to kick in the exercise as I have fallen off to only 30 minutes of exercise a day instead of an hour a day, and my calories are probably too high. But I am definitely ecstatic to have maintined for over a year. I do weigh myself daily to keep tabs on myself. I never let the scale go up more than 3-4 pounds which comes on instantly if I start eating too much bad stuff. And I am known to have a piece of cake now and then(4 - 5 times a year). Sometimes it might be only a bite, or if necessary my own piece. At a restauarant I pass on the bread unless it is some spectacular type that I haven't seen before or a really rare treat. When appetizers go around I may have one or two, but no longer to I pull up a chair and make a meal out of them!

These are all things that ANYONE can do. You just have to believe in yourself and trust that you already know what is right. Treat yourself like a child. You wouldn't allow your child to eat a bag of cookies for dinner, so why do it to yourself? Again the main thing is to never ever give up. It will always be a work in progress. There is no magical once and for all fix. And while the pills may work, you will eventually have to get off of them. And as you get older, you will find more health issues coming your way such as high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes. These might be only words to you now, but unless you have watched someone die of these horrible diseases the reality of what is in store for you isn't clear. You can change your life. People do it every day. You just have to make that commitment and not give up!

well my mom ascually has a realy nice body she is a size 8 and she is 45, I am not skinny the reason is that I can't stik to a diet, I just can't stop eating what make sme fat, but her she takes care of her self, what she does is is eats only protein, examples (she doesn't eat pasta, tortillas,bread, sweets, the only vergetables she eats are chile,onion,garlic hey there's a salsa right there) and she doesn't drink sodas at all, she is always energetic and in really good shape, they call it the sexy diet (cuz you look really good on it you don't look like you are dieting and you can eat as much as you want, mainly meat, and you can buy protein water and bars when you feel like something sweet. I am not really in that good of a shape but that is cuz I can't control myslf but if you are a person that can control yourself this is for you and the best thing is that once you lose the weight you keep it off you don't rebound like on other diets, this isnot really a bad diet cuz you should not starve yourself on this diet. well I hope this helos I had givne this diet to a lot of people and it had worked for them. by the way I am 24 and i am a size 16. but really try it ans get back with me and tell me how it worked for you (maybe you are asking why doens't she try it? I had but I can't control myself from eating tortillas breat soda, etc I just can't!! but people who can lucky them cuz it works like I said my mom is way older than me and has better body than me. try it trust me and you'll see you can even end up beein even smaller than size 14

the nervousness probably came from the ephedra that used to be in their products before it was outlawed...i tried it...it was no better than any other diet. Whats really funny is the current diet you see at all the drug stores(though I cant remember it for the life of me LOL) i think its alfa? or alba? its in a white box...anyway...the product is worthless...if u follow the directions..its just a regular diet...and you wont lose any weight on their product if u dont follow the diet...which you'd lose weight following with or w/o pills..LOL and people pay for it LOL!!!!

I am 5'10, and 175 pounds. size 10/12. I have tried many different kinds of diet pills... the best i found was NoDoz...it gives you energy and makes you sweat.. but you also feel like your on crack and its hard to pay attention.... anyway I stopped using that stuff and started doing the healthy thing... I work out 6 days a week, at least 20-40 minutes of running each day. I also do lots of sit ups and use free weights. I still have areas I wish could look better.. like cellulite and extra weight on my hips. The point I make is that it takes lots of hard work, and the work never ends. You just have to keep yourself motivated. The first few weeks are hard for maintainning a good diet. But it gets easier, and you learn to live with out all the fatty foods and snacks. Also there is a plus side for those of you who struggle... most physical trainers and doctors tell you that one slack day a week is actually good for your body, as long as your eating right the rest of the week. By putting fatty foods or snacks into your diet once a week keeps your body out of balance, which means your body has to work over time to burn it off. If your body gets used to the same diet day in and day out, you could work out like arnold or hulk hogan and it wont help you loose the weight.
as for workouts go, start by walkig around the block after dinner, get someone else involved. have a buddy to workout with, that always helps. it can also be bad if you depend on them for your motivation...
start walkig alittle bit faster every night, enough to break a sweat. most people feel a burn in there legs, like there calfs...its normal, but if the pain gets worse or hurts so bad that when you stop its like your legs cramp up, you may need new shoes. most people NEVER get fit properly for running/walking shoes.
Starting with walking will help alot with gaining energy. you will feel better about yourself because your starting to make a real change, a healthy change for yourself.
Eventually you will work your way up to jogging/running and you can inculude push-ups and pulls ups.
If you need motivation, I recomend watching the Biggest Loser. That is a very good positive show and I hope it stays on TV forever. It is really great motivation and it makes me feel bad if I watch it and havent worked out. So put down the cookies, put donw the soda...even that diet soda... and get outside. go to a gym. If your not comfortable with a gym then use your neighborhood as your gym. you can always find some stairs to climb or a hill to walk up and down.

Also, if you have cellulite issues, hard work helps, but so does a topical cream. However you shouldnt rely on the cream alone for a change. try using resistance bands, lunges, or a stair machine.
no pain, no gain. your gonna hurt physicaly and emotionaly, but when its over and you've got a system for you that works, youll feel way better physicaly and emotionaly. And you look better than you ever did. :)

BTW
I took Metabolite and got so hot I had to wet my head to cool down and even that didn't work, so I got in a COLD bath and passed out for 45 mins! I know because, I knew what time I got in the tub and out.

Then there was another time almost like that with my over heating. It wasn't long after that that I had to go to the doctors because I couldn't finish a thought. Yeah I had no clue what was happening and I had just got married! I had to ask my new husband how to make a packet of gravy, because I couldn't undterstand what it was saying on the back! Crazy! I'm sure he was freaking out inside lol. I found out it was my thyroid. It all came down to the Metabolite screwing it up! Don't take this kind of stuff up less your willing to be on thyroids meds for life. That means your whole health system of your body will be screwed for life!
I also had a gall badder surgergy just after that. I know that it all ties in and it ruined my health and honestly what was my life. I'm over weight and look back at a size 12 and think how ungrateful I was at being that. I wish to God I was that small now! I'm now a size 20. The gall badder being removed has left me with bowel problems. So I have to wear loser pants in the tummy hurts and that is almost evry day. It sucks.... so not worth any pills!
God bless all of you, and hold your hand as you try to lose weight. I'm today starting again, to not eat the garbage and to try to move and start to get in shape. I sit almost all day because of a tummy ache.

Weight loss takes alot of patience and perseverence but you just have to stick with it. For motivation focus on how you feel (stronger, better etc) rather than the scale; take pride in the small triumphs; and GET ACTIVE.... It doesn't have to be on a treadmill but bring activity back into ur life however you feel inspired to.... It's not just about cutting the calories you take in but getting rid of what you take in and what your body has stored away.

I was in the same situation as you and I always wished someone had told me - if you can't lose weight, just maintain where you're at...sooner or later you'll want to reduce. take it from me, 62,diabetic and fat...i'm working on it, but i'm paying the price. good luck
