Ok your in Fort Apache surrounded by Indians , or your Will Penny and snowed in for the winter---what western lady star would like to be snowed in with or meet your posible death with in Fort Apache..

I think I'd like to rescue Claudia Cardinale to the old line shack in the dead of winter lol

Joan Crawford i Think The Roll She Played in Johnny Giutar Was The Best From Any Actress i Have Seen in Any Western, She Was Awesome in Anything She Did, And Yes i Would Have Gone into Her Burning Hotel To Rescue Her.

Raquel Welch in a Western with Robert Culp, Ernest Borgnine, Jack Elam, and Stother Martin. I forget the title, but until Culp finds her some clothes, she is as sexy as one can imagine in tight jeans and nothing but a blanket on top.

katherine ross in butch cassiday and the sundance kid

The key is to find a woman in a WESTERN BOOK that is memorable. I'd have to vote for Elizabeth DuBonnet in "SAving Tom Black." In the start, she runs away from an orphan train to find her mother and sister. She tries to disguise herself as a male (Tom Black) and has incredible adventures. She's a combination of fearful yet determined, so it's not like she's GI Jane or something. Some of the events are hysterical...something you don't find too often in traditional Westerns.

Hey Meyer3, thats "Hannie Caulder". I prefer Maureen O'Hara, a real classic beauty!

Welch was indeed good in Hannie Caulder. And Maureen O'Hara
is one of my favorites. Barbara Stanwyck was in a number of
good westerns too.

Well, I guess if you're surrounded by Indians you might want a lady that can outshoot every gunfighter around. That way you could fight your way out of the fort and spend the winter in the line shack.

I recommend Sharon Stone in the Quick and the Dead.

Barbara Stanwyck has to be number one
Agree that Sharon Stone was great in the Quick and the Dead
Modern day actress I love is the beautiful and talented Jordanna Allen, from "A Hell of A Ride.
Extraordinary horse riding skills and incredible ability with horses.

Michele Carey in "El Dorado" with John Wayne, Robert Mitchum, James Caan, Ed Asner.

She rode bareback and took out the bad guy with a rifle.. saving John Wayne.
And with that wild hair and leather pants......
If I was a 12 year old boy going to the matinee in 1967, that would have growed me up right quick!

I liked Gail Davis in the old "Annie Oakley" TV shows and many of the Gene Autry movies. A cuter cowgirl you could not find anywhere.

To get back to books I have a fatal weakness for women who know how to use a six gun. I was a big fan of the White Squaw series and Jessica Starbuck in Lone Star. More recent favorities are the Ralph Compton Shadow of a Noose tetrology and Peter Brandvold's Louisa Bonaventure. I'd be heaps obliged if anyone could point me to other gun slingin gals, especially on Kindle.

I like Marlene in her two westerns, though why was she named "Frenchie" in the first one? Should I blame Brand?

Stanwyck *always good, especially in The FURIES.

Western pulp fans should check out "SENORITA SCORPION" series from ACTION STORIES. Jon Tuska for some reason spread these through the Les Savage paperbacks.
I hear the first four tales are collected in a new tome. These four are the best as Savage seemed to lose interest later in the series.

I'm thinking of Karen Steele in RIDE LONESOME, the Budd Boetticher film with Randolph Scott. She was a Jayne Mansfield type,
but more sympathetic. Gorgeous, upright but vulnerable, and worth fighting for.
Another very beautiful woman, in an even better film: Julie London in MAN OF THE WEST.

Jay Lesiger says:
Certainly Barbara Stanwyck, who was amazingly at home in westerns as she was in other movie genres. And let's not forget Joanne Dru, who was great in RED RIVER, SHE WORE A YELLOW RIBBON and WAGONMASTER.

Jane Russel was good in the comedic western, The Paleface. And for that matter, Barbara Rhodes wasn't shabby in the remake, The shakiest gun in the west west.

Pen Scepter says:

That was "Hannie Caulder." Very strange western, as they go, but I agree that Welch was incredibly scenic.
