Kate says:
I'm looking for unique YA romance.
I love books that go beyond your typical love story.
Something with secrets or danger or something like that. Or with people dealing with big issues like tragedy or abuse. I want gripping romance that touches you and keeps you guessing and quickly turning pages.
But I'm NOT looking for paranormal romance. So NO vampires or werewolves or people with weird powers.
I am, however, okay with fairytale retellings. Other than that though, I prefer the characters to be ordinary people.
Here are some examples of what I'm looking for. These are my favorite books:

If I Stay by Gayle Forman
Breaking Beautiful by Jennifer Shaw Wolf
Kill Me Softly by Sarah Cross
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
Easy by Tammara Webber
Heart on a Chain by Cindy C. Bennett
Flat-Out Love by Jessica Park
The Day Before by Lisa Schroeder
Between by Jessica Warman
Still Waters by Emma Carlson Berne

Can you think of any books like the ones I listed above?? Or that match what I described?? Thank you so much!!

If you liked IF I STAY and THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, you might enjoy BEFORE I DIE by Jenny Downham. I just finished it, quietly weeping for the last 20 min on my sofa. :P

Delirium: The Special Edition is a great book, forbidden love story/dystopian.

If you are willing to branch out and stick with a long trilogy, then I HIGHLY suggest you read The Knife of Never Letting Go: Chaos Walking: Book One and the rest of the series. They're not romance novels per say, more like adventure/dystpoia/phsycological... but they have my absolute FAVORITE love story. It's slow building though, like it takes the whole series to unfold.

How about Such a Rush by Jennifer Echols? I haven't read it, it's on my gargantuan TBR list, but it sounds like we have the same tastes in YA.

Try these

Slammed and Point of retreat by Colleen Hoover.
I read these after I read Easy. I thought I hit the jackpot all three books were excellent.

How about any of the Merecedes Lackey books? They aren't really YA but they are definitely romance. She redoes a lot of the classic fairy tales.

The Fairy Godmother (Tales of the Five Hundred Kingdoms, Book 1)

you have to read, Reason to Breath and Barely Breathing by Rebecca Donavan (note: it is a cliffhanger with the 3rd book coming in 2013, Out of Breath) SOOO GOOD!
Sempre and Crows's Row are great but different romances with lots of angst!

You might like Songbird by Angela Fristoe. It features a girl, Dani, who witnessed her father kill her brother and grew up in foster care, finally finding a place to call home. But her past trauma, as well as a possible stalker from her past, threaten her chances of finding peace, and also love with her best friend, Reese.
