I got some money for christmas and have been wanting to buy some new books. Any suggestions?

First you need to give us an idea on what you like/don't like/what you've already read, etc.

Well, I'm very perticular. Like for instance, I just purchased this morning, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and the Girl Who Played With Fire at my local bookstore. I like books like that. Fantasy, very emotional situations, stuff like that.

Dragon Tattoo hits me as more thriller suspense than fantasy. Also not at all YA.

Since you're in the YA forum - what YA books have you read lately?

Have you read Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor?

I'm a teen but I read adult books mostly. I mentioned fantasy as another genre that I like. The last YA book I've read is Torment by Lauren Kate from the Fallen series. No I have not read that book.

Did you like the Fallen series?

Posted on Dec 24, 2011 1:42:03 PM PST
Yes, it blew me away. I'm almost done with Passion.

Posted on Dec 24, 2011 2:34:34 PM PST
OK - def give Smoke & Bone a shot.

Also, you might like Shade by Jeri Smith-Ready, Demon Trapper's Daughter by Jana Oliver, and Devil's Kiss by Sarwat Chadda.

I loved Revolution -Jennifer Donnelly (very emotionally intense)
Forgotten - Cat Patrick, Divergent was a great Dystopian one as was Enclave. If you like Magic, Dark Mirror was good. I loved the Girl in the Steel Corset. I loved the imagination of the Daughter of Smoke and Bone!

Physical books or ebooks? There's been a Special Promotion sale going on - a 4 for 3 for certain print books. Maybe just build a list and then go through to see which of the ones you want is part of that sale?

Both print and ebooks. My mom handed me her credit card and said have a nice time.

I also liked The Scorpio Races but some people think it is too slow.

Happy day for you!

Since eBooks are good too, perhaps Brightest Kind of Darkness by PT Michelle (YA paranormal romance).

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 24, 2011 8:07:26 PM PST
I loved it too!

The Infernal Devices Trilogy by Cassandra Clare. Anything by John Green.

I definitely second the recommendation for Daughter of Smoke and Bone. A friend whom I really trust said Graceling and its companion novel Fire, by Kristin Cashore, are excellent (they're next on my TBR list). And if you haven't read The Hunger Games, you must!

You might also enjoy:
- The Forest of Hands and Teeth (trilogy) by Carrie Ryan
- The Blue Sword and its companion The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley
- Uglies (series) by Scott Westerfeld
- The Host by Stephenie Meyer

I actually could never get into the Hunger Games.

I ended up ordering some Francesca Lia Block, Lolita, and some others. I still have more money left but I think I'm going to order the first season of one of my favorite shows.
