4.0 out of 5 stars good compilation of what's popular in the lounge space, March 10, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: futurelounge 3 (Audio CD)
If this were food, it would be sampler hors d'oeuvres. Most of it is acid jazz/lounge/Brazillian influenced whatever you want to call it, but not trip hop and not house. Mostly instrumental and mostly soft beats. This would sit nicely next to Costes, Tosca, Hedkandi, Naked Music, Compost, ESL, etc. The things I don't like: not mixed, two tracks are misfits: 9 comes on too loud as a French Disco number, and the cheezy vocals and accoustic melody on track 14 are so out of place it makes me drop what I'm doing to hit next track, because there's a cool song from Astrud Gilberto to finish the disk.

3.0 out of 5 stars Solid Lounge Compilation, April 1, 2005

Stereo Deluxe is a label that really saw it's time come and go. The label was probably at it's height in the end of the 90's up to maybe 2002 and shortly after with the release of Mo Horizon's last major album. Other artists on their label include Funky Lowlives, Bobby Hughes Combo and Boozoo Bajou. They also have several series of compilations that came out - some could argue they were a bit too frequent and thus cannibalistic. Where the label's going, I'm not sure, as they have joined with Ministry of Sound Germany now (think Brazilution), so we'll see what the future holds.

This is one of them - the third edition of the Future Lounge series. It starts out spectacularly with Pablo's jazzy urban affair in "Reincarnation". That's followed up nicely by Jaffa's album version of "Elevator". Next up is a cut that won't be foreign to Hotel Costes Fans, as Hacienda kicks up the pace with "Late Lounge Lover". Albeit not my favorite track, but it's a good energy beat and cool for the lounge. Other tracks that stood out was another Costes favorite, "Ambrosia" by A Reminscent Drive. Trio Eletrico's "Return of the Coconut Groove" is twinged in a Thievery Corporation/ESL mold - perfect for the time of this album. And Airfix's track ws cool, albeit pretty slow, and Astrud Gilberto's "Maria Quiet" is loaded with class - I love this version and even with Rosalia De Souza's, it's just not as cool as this one. But despite these good songs, there was still a healthy dosage of filler and Yonderboi's "Padaman" was grossly overused at this time - on everything from Ministry chillout to Ministry knock-offs and competitors.

In the end, I liked this album and had value in it from Pablo and a few of the other tracks. I have great memories from the time I got this, and remember when I got this. However I also collected Stereo Deluxe's "Bassic Instinct" series which actually had some of the same cuts as this one had, and others in thne Future Lounge series. Admittedly there are other compilations that were out at this time (2000) that were more than capable rivals like Serve Chilled, Om Lounge and even the early (and arguably best) days of Hotel Costes. These tracks are stand alone too - not mixed or cross faded. A welcome and underrated format!

This is a great cd for relaxing. I had it once before
but lost it. So glad I found in on Amazon. Cd was in perfect
condition, no scratches or markings. Cover was paper and a little
flimsy. Shipped in good time.
