4.0 out of 5 stars Best diapering option for baby, parents and the planet!
I love gDiapers! I tried them because they are the greenest option, and also found them to be very practical. Flushing the inserts is very easy, and though it's an extra step it's really not that much work, especially for all the benefits for the planet, and thus our children. That also means no diaper pail to empty.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointment
I was so excited to hear about this hybrid cloth/paper diaper, but it was a big disappointment. They weren't that easy to use. They leaked and our pipes slowed down considerably when we flushed them. Also we had to wash the outer layer often... so we might as well be using cloth. Now, we've switched to partial fuzzibuzz (after she has done her morning poop) and partial...

I love gDiapers! I tried them because they are the greenest option, and also found them to be very practical. Flushing the inserts is very easy, and though it's an extra step it's really not that much work, especially for all the benefits for the planet, and thus our children. That also means no diaper pail to empty.
Fitting them correctly takes a little practice, but once you get the hang of it there are no leaks. I recommend watching the videos on the gDipers website.
As for performance I get fewer leaks with these than with disposables. My water pressure is great so I can flush the inserts without swishing.
The only con is the price, since they are the most expensive diapers and they are not easy to find in stores. Of course the price is because of the materials they use and that they don't produce them by the billions like other brands. Hopefully as more people use them they'll become more affordable and available. Because of this I use cloth diapers at home and gDiapers when traveling or on long outings. Also the gDiapers covers (little g's) can be used as a cover for cloth diapers (using a cloth insert instead of the flushable insert).
A final recommendation: even though they have little g's in lots of colors and patterns on their website, it's cheaper to get several starter kits than to buy little g's separately, if you don't mind only sticking to the two colors that come in the starter kit.

4.0 out of 5 stars good but pricey, July 7, 2008
This review is from: gDiapers Little gPants 2-Pack Orange & Vanilla, Medium (Health and Beauty)
We stumbled across these at a local discount warehouse for a really good price and bought the last three packages that were on the shelf. The refills are nice, but we mainly use the pants+liners with prefolded cloth diapers. The plastic liner holds the cloth in place and keeps wet diapers from leaking through to clothing. Ok at keeping poop in place too -- if you make sure to change it promptly!

Pros:

* "Earth friendly" compostable/flushable inners if you use them this way.
* Works great with prefolded cloth diapers too.
* Lasts (almost) long enough through frequent washing for your kid to grow out of them.

Cons:

* Expensive, especially if you plan to use the disposable refills. May be worth the investment for the savings in regular disposable diapers, especially if you have to pay per-bag for your trash.

* Velcro closures break down over time with frequent washing; we have six (?) pairs and after six months of near-daily washing the velcro is almost useless. When baby starts crawling the velcro needs to hold a little better. We won't be able to "hand them down" unless someone wants to stitch on new velcro pads.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best diaper ever!, July 2, 2008

We abandoned disposable diapers in favor of cloth when our first child was about 6 months old, and I was *sure* we'd never go back. I'd looked at g-diapers when she was smaller, before we switched to cloth, but hadn't tried them. When our second child was about 5 months old, we planned a 6-day trip, and the idea of having to lug around dirty diapers and find time to do laundry while on vacation was overwhelming. A friend (who loved the product), suggested that I give them a try for the trip - I did, and I LOVED them, I've never looked back. Aside from being eco-friendly, they're the most versatile diaper I've ever used. It's just as easy to use cloth inside as it is a flushable insert, they're adorable, fit wonderfully and are much trimmer than other cloth covers that I've tried. The company's customer service is stellar, and they really go the extra mile for their customers and stand behind their product. I think so highly of the product that it's not my default baby shower gift!

They have also sized the diapers to be long-lasting, my daughter is now 20 months, and has been in a medium since she was 5 months. I don't anticipate that she'll ever need a large, since she's mostly potty trained, but as a joke, we've tried them medium on her 3 1/2 year-old sister, and it's comfortable on her as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars We love our g diapers, November 16, 2007

I was thrilled to find g diapers. I had used cloth in the past and disposable diapers in the past. Having a diaper that is both re-usable and disposable has been great for us. G diapers are easier to use than the cloth I had in the past, but as convenient as disposables. They are also cute. I have been composting our wet diapers vs. flushing and is has been going well. I have been recommending g diapers to my friends with new babies.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love gdiapers, July 5, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I love gdiapers. The only thing I have a problem with is that I did not know we had tree roots in our sewer system so we had a backup in our basement. We now use them only outside of the house and use cloth at home. We only have to wash the "gpant" every few uses but every time Ophelia poops we have to wash the liner. You can rinse it out and leave it so you can wash it when you get time and there is not a poop smell in the house.

3.0 out of 5 stars These are good in some ways..., August 9, 2008

This review is from: gDiapers Little gPants 2-Pack Orange & Vanilla, Medium (Health and Beauty)
The disposable inserts are a little too expensive. With the rising costs of EVERYTHING, I just can't afford them when the diapers I normally purchase are less than a third of the cost of these. These also leak. The cotton diaper cover felt damp in the front (where my daughter pees) every time I put these on her, even though I was changing them every two hours. I had to wash the cotton covers every time I used one. I also had trouble with the inserts when covered with poo. It was very hard to get them out of the liner without getting any poo on me, the diaper cover, or anything else in close proximity. The covers are cute and seem to be well-designed, but overall, these simply aren't effective enough for me and are far too expensive to boot. I really wanted them to work. I would love to have a green diapering alternative, but these and Nature Babycare (a totally biodegradable disposable) are out of my price range until that day in the distant future when I can refinance and lower my mortgage. I'm not kidding.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST DIAPERS EVER!, July 3, 2008
By
This review is from: gDiapers Little gPants 2-Pack Orange & Vanilla, Medium (Health and Beauty)
My daughter is now 9 months old and we started gDiapers a couple months ago. They are a fantastic alternative to the junky plastic diapers that everyone uses. I had looked into cloth diapers when she was born but couldn't bring myself to do it. Too gross for me. SO-our grocery store started carrying gDiapers and we decided to try them. They really are a great alternative and I feel like I'm doing something better for the earth.
My daughter is still in the medium at almost 17lbs. I'm thinking she'll be in them for a long time. She is tall and thin for her age. When flushing, I do swish because sometimes my toilet gets clogged but all in all it works great. Even if you decide to throw them away, gDiapers only take 50-150 DAYS to decompse as opposed to up to 150 Years for the plastic diapers. I just feel better about using them...and they're super cute just to wear with a T-shirt on really hot days!
Do watch the video's on the gDiaper website. They're very helpful and you can call any time to ask for advise. Also, when it comes to wipes, it's hard to find "biodegradable". Amazon carries a few: Natural Choices, Avalon Organic (these are flushable but according the the reviews they are very small and thin), and a few others. Most wipes contain plastic believe it or not....Next Generation wipes are NOT biodegradable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful diapers! Worth the cost!, November 4, 2008
As a mother of 5 kids I have used both disposables and cloth over my 11 years of diapering...and now gdiapers! I love that gdiapers are biodegradable and better for the earth than disposables. I love that I don't have to wash a seperate load of laundry just for diapers! I especially love that I can flush away the messes and not have a diaper pail full of festering diapers! I have not had one single leak with these diapers (including overnight!) and they are so much cuter than disposables! I was also amazed at how trim they are! They are a bit thicker than disposables, but not by a lot. All of her clothes still fit easily over the gdiaper. When cleaning up a poopy diaper, I wipe her with flushable wipes (I love the Huggies flushables) and flush the wipes right with the diaper! I haven't had a clog yet!

The only downside to these diapers are the cost of the flushable liners. They are significantly more expensive than disposable diapers and it's been really hard for me to live with that extra cost! Daily I search online diaper forums looking for good deals...people who bought too many and are selling off their leftovers cheap. Also, Amazon offers 15% off if you sign up for regular devlieries. My baby is about to grow out of the small size, so I don't want to order 160 refills, but I will probably sign up for it once she is in mediums. Using Amazon's 15% off, small refills are 27.6 cents each. A little more expensive than disposables but not too outragous!

The bottom line is that I love these diapers. They are the best of both worlds! I wish they had been invented years ago so I could have used them with more than just my last child!! I recommend everyone gives them a try. The starter pack is reasonably priced and gives you everything you need to give it a good try. If it turns out that you don't like the system, sell the pants on Craigslist (or ebay or diaperswappers) and you will just about make your money back! The risk to you is very little with the starter pack! Happy diapering!

1.0 out of 5 stars not absorbent enough and too expensive, November 21, 2008
This review is from: gDiapers Little gPants 2-Pack Orange & Vanilla, Medium (Health and Beauty)
I have two complaints about these diapers:
1) they aren't absorbent enough. when my baby pees the insert gets soaked and bunches up immediately resulting in leaks and wetness next to his skin.
2) the inserts are very expensive, making them more expensive (and less absorbent) than commercial diapers.

You don't save any time with these, and you won't save any money, so if you're concerned about the environment and water's not an issue where you live get cloth diapers.

I'm using mine (since I already bought them) with cloth prefolds inside the plastic insert thing and they work all right that way.
