5.0 out of 5 stars People still Playing Games in Life, January 28, 2010

This review is from: games people play: the psychology of human relationships (Paperback)
After all these years, people are still playing the sames games in life they were two generations ago. This book is just as informative and just as valuable in gaining insight as it ever was. Helping to understand why people behave the way they do goes a long way in dealing with them. In today's tough times, we need all the help we can get dealing with people under stress.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for anyone trying to figure out the "unwritten rules" of social conduct, August 11, 2011

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Games People Play (Paperback)
This is a book of social transactional analysis written for the lay person by a psychiatrist specializing in the field. It is chock full of "meat" and very little "fluff". The author has a dry sense of humor that is very engaging without bogging down the flow of useful information.

If you are looking for a feel-good, fluffy self help book, this is not it. If you are looking for an in-depth analysis of the structure of social interactions and the motivations behind it without a lot of fluffy-filler touchy-feelie stories, this book is IT! It is not a self-help book, so much as a field guide with descriptions to spot patterns and why folks engage in them. If you like to think about and analyze social behavior, this book will give you all you need to know!

I have Asperger's and this book was invaluable in helping me to understand the logic behind human social interactions and beliefs. Much of what people do in social situations doesn't make a lot of sense and this book analyzes and breaks down many social behaviors, both positive and negative, offers suggestions for correct participation and/or how to counter negative patterns. A very VERY useful book for anyone who finds themselves pondering the sometimes unassailable mysteries of the general "unwritten" social rules of society.

5.0 out of 5 stars fast secure delivery & in great shape, i would buy it again, thank you., February 12, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is must reading if you are in the recovery field, but it is a basic book and reading a 20 or so other books relating to it are must reading to grasp the basic concepts involved in transactional analysis. If you are thinking of buying this book as a self-help guide, yes, it will add to and aid you in your studies of pop-psychology. Remember, a psychiatrist wrote this so he was thinking of human physiology as it relates to TA, as a psychoanalist would.
