This review is from: The ghost of North America;: The story of the eastern panther
This is the definitive work on the Eastern Cougar and the question of extirpation in the East. Wright maintained that a remnant population survied well into the 20th century. Do they still survive today, or are the many reports just released/escaped captive animals from South America or from the West of North America? Who knows. It is possible that they survived in Eastern Canada/Northest Appalachia/Great Smokey/ and Upper Michigan but we really don't know. Wright documents most all of his work. He also presents a compeling argument. This book is a must for all who love wild things. I bought my copy at 18 dollars and now the cost of a used book is over 100 dollars. That must tell something about the work of this man. I also suggest the "Eastern Panther: A Question of Survival 1972" by Wright, and "On the track of the New Brunswick panther : the story of Bruce Wright and the eastern panther" 2002 by Gilbert Allardyce (If you can find it! I got my copy direct from Canada...). I also suggest joining the Eastern Cougar Federation and supporting their good work. It is only a question of time when the Western Cougar will come east and reclaim it's former range. That day may be already here!
