5.0 out of 5 stars A great unknown war novel, April 8, 2006
This review is from: The ghost front
"The Ghost Front" is one of the top-ten books I've ever read. I first read it when I was in high school. As an adult, unable to find a copy (this was before the Internet revolution), I actually went back to the school and bought that copy from them. How embarrassing is that? Thing is, I still have it. Yes, it's that good.

"The Ghost Front" literally changed my life. Before it, my idea of war came from Sgt. Rock comics. I was all psyched up to sign up for Vietnam. After this book, I decided volunteering for war might not be such a good idea.

Frank Bonham is a great, and I mean great, writer. For deftly capturing a scene or a character in the fewest possible words, I put him right up there with Hemingway. You'll have trench foot and a hacking winter cough before you finish this novel.

I'm not looking back on this book through rose-colored glasses, either. As of this writing, I'm 46. I just went back and re-read it again after probably ten years. Believe me, it stands the test of time.

5.0 out of 5 stars The only book I've read twice. Period., November 1, 2003

This review is from: Ghost Front (Hardcover)
This is the only book I've ever read twice. It's about two brothers who are in separate units during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. One is in the 101st Airborne, the other is in different unit. The reader experiences an engrossing account of this great battle through the eyes of each brother, making for a very fun read from two perspectives. I read this when I was maybe 11 and 14, but still remember the book to this day, (I'm 29).
Enjoy!
