5.0 out of 5 stars ghostgirl: Homecoming is HYSTERICALLY TRAGIC!
First of all, I really loved the dark, twisted, hysterical ghostgirl. I was so excited to read this sequel, hoping that it would be half as good as the first one, which would make it worth the while for me. Well, it was even BETTER. BETTER! It was more hysterical, even wittier than the first, and it went much deeper. You learn to care about all the characters and...

5.0 out of 5 stars ghostgirl: Homecoming is HYSTERICALLY TRAGIC!, June 24, 2009

First of all, I really loved the dark, twisted, hysterical ghostgirl. I was so excited to read this sequel, hoping that it would be half as good as the first one, which would make it worth the while for me. Well, it was even BETTER. BETTER! It was more hysterical, even wittier than the first, and it went much deeper. You learn to care about all the characters and learn more about the world they live, or not live, in, and Hurley's twists and turns will have you re-thinking all of them and their motives as well as have you laughing out loud! This author's ability to weave the ridiculous with the profound is incredible. This book is just as amazing as it's cover, which is gorgeous, by the way. My only hope is that they make a movie of this series and fast, and that there are many more books to follow! Ghostgirl: Homecoming is filled lots of laughs and even some tears, and if I didn't read it myself, I wouldn't believe it. I simply could not put this book down!

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice sequel, June 29, 2009
This review is from: ghostgirl: Homecoming (Hardcover)
Charlotte Usher is back in Ghostgirl: Homecoming and she has graduated from Dead Ed...only, she hasn't quite moved up in the afterworld. She's now got an internship at a hotline for troubled teens--a job Charlotte is certain that she isn't exactly qualified for--and her new friend Maddy is super controlling. And then when her earthly friends find themselves in deep trouble, Charlotte will have to make a decision that could change everything.

Charlotte and her gang are just as amusing and entertaining in this sequel to Ghostgirl. Tonya Hurley offers readers yet another twisty story that will have readers laughing even harder than the first book, but she also offers a little more depth as she tackles bigger issues and gets readers thinking a little more. The more observant reader will pick up once again on Hurley's many references to the horror genre, which makes Homecoming a fun and smart read. Though the ending and some resolutions are a bit abrupt and seem to happen without reasonable explanations, fans of the series will be able to overlook it in favor of the nicely satisfying ending.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a SEQUEL!, July 7, 2009
This review is from: ghostgirl: Homecoming (Hardcover)
I really loved ghostgirl, and I thought if the sequel ghostgirl: Homecoming was half as good, I'd be happy. Well, it was even BETTER! The story is so deep and profound, I actually learned a lot about life and myself from this book, and the lines are even more hysterical than the first book. I don't know how this author juggles both the hysterical and the melancholy and touching moments, but she does with ease. This book is a MUST READ. I can't wait for more ghostgirl books!

Outstanding, touching, witty and darkly entertaining. I didn't think it was possible but this book was even better than the first Ghostgirl. Hurley is not only a terrific writer but a thought-provoking philosopher! I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the next book, television series or movie!!! I LOVED THIS BOOK!

3.0 out of 5 stars A Hilarious Second Novel, December 23, 2011
This review is from: ghostgirl: Homecoming (Hardcover)
Attention goths, gouls, and undead cheerleader wannabes - the much-anticipated sequel to ghostgirl is now available! In the follow-up to Tonya Hurley's best-selling debut, Charlotte Usher is struggling with her new un-life. After passing "Dead Ed," she and her classmates are assigned to a phoneback, acting as a heavenly conscience for troubled teens. But her phone never seems to ring, her friends seem to be ingnoring her, and her new room mate, Maddy, is strange at best. Most of all, she misses her BFF, Scarlet, who is still alive. But when Scarlet's sister, Petula, gets an infection from her pedicure and ends up in a coma, Scarlet is positive that Charlotte is her sister's last hope. Together the girls must find a way to help the comatose cheerleader - but only if Maddy doesn't get in the way. Perfect for a fun summer read, ghostgirl fans will adore this hilarious second novel, and will soon be clamoring for a third.

5.0 out of 5 stars <3, June 20, 2011
Although, not as amazing as the first, this book was very satisfying. I found I couldn't put it down. Each of the characters seem to have this personality, which very few books people do. I wish I could write as astonishingly as Tonya Hurley. When I apporoached this book I thought it would be stupid seeing as though the first Ghostgirl wrapped up itself so well. I was flabergasted about how easily it slid into my heart. I found all the little twists in the story so... well... fitting. I love it, in short.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great!, March 10, 2011
This review is from: ghostgirl: Homecoming (Hardcover)
It's not often that an author can keep the same tempo and beat as the first book, but, Tonya seems to be an exception.
It's a fun fast read that even as an adult, I have found myself eagerly awaiting the next page.
Fantastic cover and great read!!

5.0 out of 5 stars BEAUTIFUL cover, brilliant ideas and HILLARIOUS view of death!, November 20, 2010
By
This review is from: ghostgirl: Homecoming (Hardcover)
I know it sounds odd that anyone could make death a laughable event but this writer did it! Without divulging too much, the girl dies by choking on a GUMMY BEAR!! hahaha That in itself is makings for a wonderful story!
My 12 year old LOVES the story. She has a hard time finding books that "grab her attention" but this has seemed to do exactly that.
I absolutely LOVE how they did the covers of these books, too! VERY CREATIVE!! Total hands up to the design team that came up with this concept.
With all of the "emo" and punk fads going around, this book really rises to the occassion to give young readers a story with content they can identify with!
IMO, it is a great story, very catching writing from a very talented author with an undeniably beautiful presentation.
I have a hard time giving anything 5 stars without it really proving itself but this series is hands down, 5 stars across the board!
I would definitely recommend this for any young reader or.....even more mature readers??? :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Courtesy of Teens Read Too, September 29, 2010
This review is from: ghostgirl: Homecoming (Paperback)
Charlotte thinks that now that she's crossed over, it will be Heaven. Instead, she ends up as an intern answering calls from troubled teens with her other Dead Ed classmates.

But while her classmates' phones ring off the hook, Charlotte's doesn't ring at all. Meanwhile, Petula, Hawthorne High's most popular girl, ends up in a coma and her sister, Scarlet, is determined to save her. And to do that she needs Charlotte's help.

This book was like a typical sequel in that it just wasn't as good as the first book. HOMECOMING just seemed really far-fetched. Not that the premise could ever really happen, anyway, but for some reason to me this one just seemed really out there.

It was still a fun read, though. I once again loved Scarlet's sarcasm and one-liners. She's just so funny!

And I really liked what happened at the very, very end. I didn't see it coming and I'm really glad that it did. It ended the book on a really good note.
