4.0 out of 5 stars Not typical Dahl, but that's not a bad thing
Bizarrely, for a Dahl story, there are no grisly deaths, no giant bugs and no magic. A giraffe, a pelican and a monkey open a ladderless window cleaning company, and eventually a young boy gets to open his own candy store. A great big oversized book (mine is, the new one's not), full of terrific drawings and much fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Book is Great, June 17, 2003
A Kid's Review
The book" The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me" was an exciting one. In my opinion it was funny and it had a lot of things going on in it.
The story is about a young boy who wants to own an old grubber shop, which is another word for candy store. The grubber shop was sold to The Ladderless Window Cleaning Company, which are a giraffe, a pelican, and a monkey. The boy made friends with The Ladderless Window cleaning Company group and was invited to join the compnay as their business manager. The company gets a job washing the Duke's palace windows. While cleaning the windows they see a robber with a pistol on the third floor. They stop him from stealing some jewels and had him arrested. The Duke gave each of them a rich reward of the one thing each had always wanted.
I would recommend this book to other fourth graders and younger readers too' because it makes you feel nice. The author gives good details and has a magical feel.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a Great Book!, October 8, 1999
By A Customer
The Giraffe, the Pelly, and Me is a great book because it's funny and exciting. Especially since there are animals in it. I read it in two days because it's an eye-sticking book. (meaning you can't keep your eyes off it) It starts off dull, but it keeps getting more exciting as the book goes on. By the time you're done, you will be glad you read it. The story starts off as a boy wanting to go inside an old FOR SALE candy store and always dreams of buying it. To find out if he ever gets inside it, you have to read the book. I also recommened reading it at school. I'm sure you'll love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pure Delight!, June 10, 2004
I have been a Ronald Dahl fan since I was a kid. As a child, I loved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and its sequel. I recently discovered The Giraffe, The Pelly and Me.

It is pure delight! The characters, and plot are fun and unexpected. It is full of humor and surprises. Good and silly to the very last page. My children loved it.

As a mom, I love that Ronald Dahl does not 'talk down' to children in his books. The vocabulary is rich and flows beautifully.

Fun for any age, I recommend it especially for a family read aloud.

5.0 out of 5 stars PELLY AND ME is FUNNY!, February 25, 2000
"My dimonds are over the ocean,

My dimonds are over the sea,

Oh, bring back, bring back, bring back my dimonds to me, to me!

Oh, bring back, bring back, bring back my dimonds to me, to me!

Oh, bring back, bring back, bring back my dimonds to me to me! Bring back my dimonds to me!"

And that's excatly what the giraffe, the pelly, and Billy do--and they have a lot of funny adventures before, during, and after doing it!

THE GIRAFFE, THE PELLY, AND ME is a lightly magical, mildly illsustrated, ROLL-OVER-LAUGHING kind of book. Dahl's comedy is the funniest it has ever been; the very reason I gave it five stars.... Dahl's best!

3.0 out of 5 stars The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me, December 5, 2005
A Kid's Review

If you read the book, Giraffe and the Pelly and Me, you would be amazed. If you love Roald Dahl's sense of humor, then you'll love this book! This book will hold your attention with all the funny events while making you laugh.

The story is about three animals that live in a house and clean for money. Pelly is a pelican that has a pretend beak, the giraffe has a long neck that can go higher than the clouds, and the monkey is a cleaner. A kid named Billy is the boss of the cleaners. When they are cleaning, the giraffe is the ladder, Pelly is the bucket, and the monkey uses his climbing ability to clean. What a team they make! In the book there is a rich man who wants his 677 windows cleaned which haven't been cleaned in 4,000 years! When they were cleaning the windows, they caught a burglar called the Cobra, who was the most dangerous burglar.

The funniest part was when Pelly caught the burglar in his beak because there was a lot of action. I also like the part when Billy was in Pelly's beak and started to pick cherries from a cherry tree, and then the gardener fell down from a ladder and Pelly flew down next to Duke. If you want to hear more funny events you will have to read this book. I recommend this book to young children.

5.0 out of 5 stars The giraffe the pelly and Me!, June 3, 2005
A Kid's Review
Have you ever imagined three animals and a little boy running a window cleaning center? If you haven't you should read, " The Giraffe, The Pelly and Me!" In this book some funny animals and a boy named Billy get to clean a rich mans windows. All the animals get to live at the guy's house but have to keep the windows clean! In this book there was a lot of amazing, funny, and bad things happening. I liked when Billy gets to change the Grubber. The illustrations are very detailed because you can tell what the characters are feeling. The lesson that I learned was that if you help someone or something you might get something you want. Find out where Billy gets all the candy.

A Kid's Review
Have you ever imagined a giraffe, a pelican and monkey cleaning windows? I read the book "The Giraffe, the Pelly, and Me," by Roald Dahl. I like all of the characters especially the giraffe. I learned it does not matter who your friends are, they are still your friends. Read how three animals catch a bad guy.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Marvelous Ladderless Window-Cleaning Company catches a robber!, November 29, 2006
A Kid's Review
The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me is both funny and serious at the same time. The Ladderless Window-Cleaning Company consists of a giraffe as the ladder, a pellican as the water bucket, a monkey doing the washing, and a kid named Billy as their manager. While they cleaning the Duke of Hampshire, they help catch a robber. This is Roald Dahl's 3rd best book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Full of imagination - a wonderful tale!, January 24, 2006
This is a beautifully written book to read to your young child. It is so full of imagination that you are taken into Dahl's magical world believing that a giraffe, a pelican, and a monkey could do your next window cleaning. We read "James and the Giant Peach" last year, and like that book this one is great read aloud. The action of the book keeps your child on the tips of their toes. It is such fun!
