5.0 out of 5 stars One of a Kind, August 17, 2000
By A Customer
I have read this book regularly to groups of emotionally and behaviorally disturbed children for two years. These are children hardened by lifetimes of physical and sexual abuse and chaotic environments. This is the only one of the many stories I read for them that truly touches more than a few of them. Most applaud. A few cry. Some have been able to use the story to build an understanding of their own feelings of abandonment and need for belonging. I believe that Pilkey, with this book, has made a profound difference in many children's lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars God Bless the Gargoyles, December 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: god bless the gargoyles (Paperback)
A great book about people/things that are different and unwanted. Everyone can learn a lesson from this book about acceptance. It is a fantasy book of poetry, with excellent color illustration, and is recommended for the K through 12th grades, as well as teachers and parents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Now more than ever..., September 14, 2001

Today is the Friday following the tragic attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. For some reason, I went through my stacks of children's books this evening (I'm a teacher BTW), and I had to pull this one out. I've never been able to get through this story/poem without my voice cracking and tears in my eyes, but this evening - it was full scale balling! The words and images just seem to fit so well with the way we're all feeling.
"God bless the hearts and the souls who are grieving
for those who have left, and for those who are leaving.
God bless each perishing body and mind, God bless all creatures remaining behind.
God bless the dreamer whose dreams have awoken.
God bless the lovers whose hearts have been broken."
Buy this book and share it with those you love!!

5.0 out of 5 stars God Bless the Gargoyles, March 12, 2000
This review is from: god bless the gargoyles (Paperback)
As we sell cement gargoyles at the Amador Flower Farm, I have chosen this book for our school children that come to visit. I have probably read it to them 30 times and always have a hard time keeping my voice from cracking at the end. It's a great story and has beautiful pictures as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars A moving book for myself and my pets, August 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: god bless the gargoyles (Paperback)
I was deeply moved by this book and hope that others will find the same tenderness and peace from reading it, and sense the truth of it in the air around them as they read. This book comforted me on a night when sorely needed, but the changes it will bring to my understanding of who is here in our home with us, helping us, will change our lives forever. I find myself wishing it were possible to somehow pour this book into the drinking water of every city and town... we would all be the better for partaking of its comfort, truth and joy...

I am 35 and I have purchased this book several times for friends. I love this story, I have read it to my nephews who are 5 and 7 and have shared it countless times. The drawings are gorgeous and it is probably one of my favorite childrens book of all time. The prose is wonderful and the story moving and sweet. You will not regret this one!!! It will be in your home library YEARS after the kids are moved out and on their own. A very special book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellence, original, appropriate for all ages!, January 1, 1999

I got this book for my 27th birthday. I cried. My 15 month old neice sat in my lap for hours looking at the pictures. It has a powerful message, well stated in language that is easily accessible to all ages. You will get something new from this book every time you reread it. And the illustrations are gorgeous.

5.0 out of 5 stars Touching,a story to delight adults as well as children., December 8, 1998

My daughter used this wonderful book for the Children's sermon in our Church this past Sunday. She wanted to get across the idea of how something or someone who appears ugly on the outside, is often beautiful on the inside. Her use of this beautiful story, reached the hearts of not only the children in our service, but the adults as well .

5.0 out of 5 stars 'Gargoyles' lets children know they are always loved., January 23, 1998
By A Customer
I bought 'God Bless the Gargoyles' after reading a few quoted lines of the verse in another story I read, and I must say that this is one of the best children's books I have ever seen. The paintings were beautiful, and so was the poem. I'm a little old myself for children's books, but I find myself glancing over the book often; it appeals to all ages, for everyone has felt alone at one time or another. I also read it to my energetic four-year-old nephew, who loves 'Gargoyles,' the animated television show. The paintings, gentle rhymes, and subject matter held his attention the entire time I was reading, and it was a great way to let him know that he was loved. This book should be in every children's library in America.

5.0 out of 5 stars very touching, September 26, 2007

great book, beautiful illustrations. I bought several copies to give my daughter's teachers. It sums up how society treats people who are different and really brings home to kids and adults how we need to change our thinking and actions towards everyone. Dav Pilkey expresses these thoughts through beautiful illustrations and thought provoking words. I would recommend this book to anyone who has a gargoyle in their lives- God bless them.
