Pirates and lust: a classic combination,
By A. Woman (Greeneville, Tennessee USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Golden Hawk (Paperback)
Golden haired Kit Gerado is filled with all kinds of lust. There's his lust for revenge against the Spanish grandee, Don Luis del Toro. There's lust for wealth from the Spanish Main as he goes gadding about in his pirate ship. There's lust for the flame haired Rouge, a rape victim who turns pirate herself to exact revenge against all men. And there's lust for Bianca, the delicate betrothed of Kit's mortal enemy. Bianca falls in love with Kit after he does such romantic things as holding her hostage on a cesspool of an island where she's almost raped, is eaten up by tropical insects, and nearly becomes lunch for an alligator. I ask you, how could she NOT love him after all that?As typical in Yerby yarns, the women show their affections for their men in subtle ways like shooting them in the head, whipping them, or testifying against them in court so that they're pronounced guilty and sentenced to hang. Add to this epic battles both on the sea and on land, capture, torture, a daring escape, and a smattering of actual history and you have a rollicking romp of a story.
