My nine year old son has had--and quickly destroyed--several wrist watches in the past few years. Finally, for his last birthday, I thought it was time to get him a "real" watch. This Timex fit the bill.
My son is rough on his stuff, and I chose this watch for him because it has a mineral glass crystal instead of the more common acrylic plastic crystal. The glass is harder and more scratch resistant. The slightly oversized case looks bulky in the pictures, but it's much better proportioned when you see it in person, and it provides excellent protection to the crown.
The infinitely adjustable wrist strap is also a nice feature. The watch is easy to put on, and you can make the band as snug--or loose--as you'd like. My only longer-term concern is that the velcro may wear out faster than a traditional watch band. We'll cross that bridge when we get to it--it's held up very well for the past month, which has included an awful lot of "watch demonstrations."
My son loves his watch. It keeps excellent time, as all quartz watches should. It's durable, and it's fairly attractive in a rugged, chunky kind of way. I'm very pleased with it.

I have swum in the Gulf of Mexico, did 30ft+ drops into the bayou with it, gardening, hiking, camping, etc. It's very tough, and the band has held up wonderfully, only starting to show its age this last year. Recently it has begun losing minutes every night. After searching the stores and online for a replacement watch I was sooo happy to be able to find the same watch on Amazon. It's definitely not just for kids!

My 6 year old has had the watch for 11 months now. It's still working great, though he doesn't wear it much. I was surprised it looked as nice as it did when we got it. The face is easy to read. We paid $14 for it last year.

I got this for my 8yo son. He loves it, its clear and easy to read. The Velcro band is easy for him to put on. Not sure how long the band will last, but for this price, you wont find anything more appropriate for that age.

It has taken the inevitable falls from his bicycle, football hits, frisbee hits, baseball hits, casual tossing around that boys dowell you get the idea. I believe the money saved from action hero licensing has gone into making a better watch. My son likes the adult style and having a watch more like his dad has (the real action hero here).. He also really likes the velcro band. I found that rolling the leather tip of the watch band to match the curve of the wrist helps the end of the watch(which sticks out from the wrist on smallish wrists) to stick to the velcro near the watch case and thus from catching on things - looks better too. At this price battery replacement is not necessary, unless they stop making this style. This watch has restored my trust in Timex, for the time being

I am a long time Timex owner (no pun intended), and was eager to provide my 8 year old nephew with his first Timex, an Indiglo. I chose a cute kids model that Timex said was age appropriate and water resistant. It was way too big, it died after about 6 months. I figured it was just bad luck. I tried again, and bought him this model, which he loved, it fit him perfectly, and he took good care of it, wouldn't go near water with it, in spite of it's claim of being water resistant. It died after 3 months. I don't know what's happened to Timex quality, but clearly it's hard to make a cheap watch that actually works. Ironically, my Timex finally died after about 10 years, but that's at least better than 3 months. I love the idea of these watches, but if they break, they cost as much to send in to repair "under warranty" as they do to purchase, so consider them disposable. Or better yet, just don't buy these cheap ones. Hopefully the more expensive ones last longer.

This is a reasonable watch for a young child. This was a 5th birthday present for my son. I picked this watch because it has an analog face, a good price, an easy to use velcro wrist band, and there were no super heros/animation figures on it. Since my son seems to have a new "love" every couple of weeks (currently star wars), I wanted a watch that wasn't going to be (wait for it) "dated" in 2 months!
My son loves the watch. This has a light up face and is very easy to read the time. There is a second hand on this. The band is a little long for my son's wrist (but he is a small kid) but the size of the watch face is perfect for his wrist size. He can easily put this on himself and it looks pretty good. Hopefully this will (another one is coming.) stand the "test of time". So far, it has stood up to at least one week of a very active 5 year old without any problems (and if there are- I will update this review!)
