UPDATE - This phone got an Android 5.0 Lollipop update on 5/13/2015. It was a 500+ MB download and took a while to unzip and install. On the first reboot the mobile network and SIM cards refused to work and I was afraid it broke. But I rebooted it and the SIM cards came back fine. One thing that bugs me is that they have installed Opera Browser in a way that it is hidden in "My Apps" under Play Store and you cannot uninstall it. I also have to wonder what else they installed that I can't see under "My Apps".

I was afraid to buy this for my daughter because there were no reviews, but this is a great buy! I had ordered the smaller Blue Studio X 5-inch phone for my wife last week due to the great reviews it got but that turned out to be a very problematic phone (review of Studio X here http://www.amazon.com/review/R1UNB3JN26A8WD). I ended up returning the 5-inch Studio X and ordered another one of these Studio X Plus phones for my wife as well.

Pros
* (UPDATE - They now force you to have Opera Browser) No crapware in the Studio X Plu! It's stock Android and you only add what you want. Makes me sick that a $700 Samsung phone installs a ton of apps you're not allowed to remove!
* Camera actually decent in such a low cost phone. The smaller Studio X had problems recording video because it stuttered so much and frame rate was so low.
* Plays 1080P videos downloaded from Youtube smoothly with stock Android video player. But my favorite video player BSPlayer (MKV support) currently has no hardware decode support yet so it is jerky in 1080P and uses a lot of CPU in software playback mode.
* Phone runs pretty smoothly in everything I've tested so far. I'll add benchmarks to this review later.
* Two SIM slots. Note that SIM 1 is full size and SIM 2 is a microSIM slot.
* Battery is user replaceable in the Studio X Plus. The smaller Studio X 5-inch sibling does not have a replaceable battery and warns you'll void the warranty if you remove the battery.
* Great internal microphone is crucial for modern chat apps that use "push to talk".
* Good sound recording quality from Earbud mic off the 3.5mm TRRS jack.

Cons (minor)
* Only average battery life.
* Only charges at 0.87 amps so the charge rate is slow.
* Hard to see how to insert SIMs based on faint etches on the phone. Note that the larger SIM goes in sideways!
* I did notice some slight stuttering while recording video at the same time I was downloading from Google Play so try not to multitask while you record videos. 1080P video recording was smooth when no background task was running.
* Image and video quality is only adequate, but you can't expect quality comparable to a $600+ smartphone.
* A little thicker, but you can't compare it to a $600+ phone.

I have attached speedtest.net results.

*UPDATE* Lollipop upgrade is live! Go to settings>about device>wireless update to get Lollipop! Will update review later :)

(Screen protector hint: When you first take the phone out of the box, there will be plastic film with a paper sticker on the glass with a small tab in the upper corner. Normally you would pull the tab to take off the film and the paper sticker. DON'T PULL THE TAB! Instead, gently peel off the paper sticker. Then cut off the tab with scissors. Boom! Screen protector with precut holes for the camera and proximity sensor! Save the screen protector that came in the box for when you really need it.)

What a great phone! The screen is an IPS display. It also utilizes OGS(one glass solution) technology so the glass and the lcd are bonded together with no gap between them so you get pretty good viewing angles. I went with this bigger 5.5 inch model since the smaller 5 inch version does not have a removable battery. They included a matching gold silicone case, screen protector and earphones which is more than most bigger brand name phones come with. The back cover was a bit hard to remove(hint: there is a small notch on the bottom right corner where you can use your fingernail to pry it off), and I'm not sure why one sim slot is a micro size while the other is a standard size? They could have made them both the same-but I'm just being picky. This phone runs buttery smooth and I was able to get 4G immediately on the AT&T network. One thing I didn't like was that the app icons on the default Google Launcher are pretty big, causing most of the icons to lose definition and look a bit washed out and blurry(Look at the Chrome browser icon!). So I downloaded Nova Launcher which uses slightly smaller, uniform icons and everything now looks crisp and clear. I would definitely recommend this phone.

I own the Blu Studio X Plus in black.
It can be upgraded to Lollipop right out of the box. Easy to do ~ look for system updates under settings. Takes a short while. Studio X Plus is a good phone before Lollipop ~ an incredible phone afterwards. After the upgrade and other updates, the sim card is not recognized. Turn the phone off/on and the problem will be solved.
The text feature is enhanced with notifications of receiving and opening as well as details. Easy to send message to multiple parties. Added colors, icons, and details improves contact/message organization.
The keyboard is improved after upgrade/updates and is easier to type with. Several font sizes are available, including sizes big enough to read without reading glasses on the 5.5" screen.
The colors are bright and crisp. Videos are better on this phone than on my Sony Bravia TV. The display is definitely high definition. Response time is quick.
The audio is clear and loud. Important for me as I am hearing impaired. Incoming call rings are loud enough for me to hear and there are a large selection of ring sounds to choose from.
Battery is removable. Can add up to 64 sd card. There are slots for two sim cards. Although I haven't added a second sim card yet, I have read you can have your phone on one sim and data on another. All sim/sd slots are located next to the battery.
Battery time is better than any cell phone I have ever owned. Did have to charge the first day after downloading numerous apps from Google Playstore. After that the battery stayed charged for a long time. A detailed battery usage chart tells you what percentage and time you have left. This phone charges faster than any phone I have owned.
Blu phones are non-carrier and unlocked which is great because they don't come with all the bloatware that carrier phones will come with. I use the T-Mobile network. This phone uses 2g and 4g when available. I have had no problems connecting.
The phone is large (5.5" screen) yet easy to hold. The back is lightly curved. The screen locks during calls. The larger phone allows you to cradle it between your cheek and shoulder during calls, keeping your hands free.
Have not used the camera yet. There is an excellent voice recorder which is easy to access.
The phone comes preloaded with google playstore. Apps are quickly downloaded. Google chrome is stock and Opera is added with the Lollipop upgrade.
I researched and tried out other phones in the stores. Blu Studio X Plus is just as good as the expensive name brand phones but costs far less.
I would highly recommend this phone.

This is an amazing phone.
Liked it a lot before upgrading to Lollipop. Loved it after the upgrade. Upgrading was easy. Found under settings. Took a short while and there were some other updates. Didn't recognize sim card right after upgrade. But turned phone off/on and then it was fine.
The display was even better with Lollipop, colors are bright and crisp. The videos (e.g.YouTube) are incredible, better than my TV at home.
5.5" screen feels comfortable in hand. Big enough so you can cradle the phone between your cheek and shoulders, keeping your hands free. Screen locks during call.
One of the main reasons to buy this phone was the high rating for in call sound quality. I am hearing impaired and have difficulty with other phones, especially the phone call alert ring. The Blu Studio X Plus does not disappoint in the audio quality. In call audio is loud and clear. Incoming call ring choices are loud and low enough for me to hear. For loudest ring, choose outdoor option. My son could hear the phone ring in my purse even though we were in the car traveling on the interstate.
Just got the phone so haven't had chance to try the camera and other features yet.
I am very happy with this phone. I have researched and tried out much higher priced phones in the stores. The Studio X Plus rivals the best and costs a fraction of the cost of comparable phones. Why pay more when you can have the best for less? I would highly recommend this phone.

I received by Studio X plus three weeks ago. This phone is fabulous. It works well without any lags.
It looks awesome and it is not too bulky in spite of the 5.5 inches screen. (it is a bit heavier than an iphone S6 plus, which has the same screen size. However, because I spent so little on it, I feel ok to use it without a case. an iphone with a case is much bulkier than this one. I bought a full body skin and screen protector from skinomi though to protect it from scratches)

I have bought this phone to replace my Samsung Galaxy S4 that had a cracked screen (costs of repair were $150, more than the cost of this phone)
I was a bit worried as the specs of the Studio X plus were a bit of a downgrade. I am on AT&T. Speed of connection seems to me as good as the LTE i had with the S4 (i.e., i am sure the maximum speed of this phone is less than LTE, but i can not notice the difference).
So far all applications worked well. It gets a bit slow if there are many apps open, but closing them down or rebooting brings it back at full speed.
The screen is just great. I just love it.
The software is much better than the S4. No non-sense proprietary apps. just the ones you need and then you can download whatever you want. the android interface is simpler and nicer than the S4. much more practical to use (i guess that Samsung tweaked Android and made it worse).

It shipped with 4.4.2 and Google launcher. after one week i received an automatic update to 5.0 (lollipop). After the update it switched to a different launcher, but i went back to the Google launcher (which is just great).

In summary: I used to have a phone that I paid $700 (and which I would have paid $400-500 to buy again now). I got a phone I like much more and i spent less than $150. You can't beat that!

My father's Tmobile Nexus 4 was on the road to dying and I came across this phone while searching on Amazon. I noticed that there are several models made by BLU but I wanted the latest phone they manufactured hoping they had fixed any issues with earlier phones. This turned out to be the BLU Studio x Plus (5.5 inch screen) which made their debuts a few months ago.

I didn't have much expectations from a phone that was unlocked and for only $149.00. However upon receiving it and unboxing it the phone, I was so pleasantly surprised. The front looked almost identical to my iphone 6 plus. and when you hold the phone it doesn't feel cheap but felt very good in the hand. I popped out the back and put in my Dad's Tmobile chip and right away the phone connected and his address book downloaded. The beautiful 5.5 display was both sharp and bright. The screen is responsive and fast. There were no pauses. His connection to Tmobile 4G was excellent as was the wifi.

Granted by father doesn't watch movies or play music on his phone and basically uses it to make and receive phone calls, check emails and for texting but after three weeks of usage he and I couldn't be more happier. Additionally the battery life is amazing and lasts him over a day and half before he has to charge it. I cannot believe you can get an incredibly well made, quality, unlocked phone for this price. I'm considering getting one myself as a backup replacement for my iphone. A great phone from BLU.

I've only had this phone for one day, but it's already one of my favorite phones. I'm not a huge phone enthusiast, and I've never had a really expensive top of the line phone, so this is not that kind of a review. I just need to text, make phone calls, and occasionally play some casual games while on break .My last phone was a Moto E, which I was quite happy with, but my prepaid service provider changed towers on me and the phone was locked into their service, so I decided to try getting an unlocked phone so I could try different ones and just swap sim cards.
Setting up the phone was really easy, and the Lollipop update only took a few minutes. It is really nice having a phone that doesn't already have a gazillion apps pre-installed that I will never use but can't delete. The screen is really nice and clear, the phone feels very sturdy. It comes with clear grippy back cover, which is good because the phone itself is very slick.
Like other reviewers, I have noticed that very occasionally I have to click on something twice, like the screen didn't register my input. So if you are really into playing games on your phone, you might not want this one. If you just want to make calls, text, and fool around on Facebook, this is a really good phone for the price.

Made everything so much easier. If you are looking for an inexpensive unlocked phone, the Blu Studio X plus is an excellent choice.

Founded in Miami, Florida in 2009 BLU is a dominant mobile phone manufacturer for Latin America and currently has a substantial presence in Central America and the Caribbean. The Studio X Plus cell phone is upscale among the BLU Products line of cellular phones.

While this cell phone accepts two SIM cards the store clerk at AT&T inserted only the larger of the two cards on grounds that it is illegal to insert both. The phone works perfectly on the single card.

The package I received included earphones, an AC wall charger and a screen protector. It takes two and a half hours to fully charge the phone from a one percent charge. The battery is replaceable. This 5.5 inch phone offers a good size screen for viewing. As I expected the back camera takes better photos than the front (selfie) camera. Video recording, web surfing, texting and everything else works smoothly. I very much like the picture quality of live newscast (for example).

My one weird experience with the Studio x Plus is what happened after I fully charged the depleted battery. I had the plastic case on the phone. While it was charging each time I pressed the on/off button the screen lit up to show a charging phone. Once fully charged the phone went completely dead! The on/off button no longer worked. As I began to remove the plastic case alas, the phone came back to life and functioned perfectly. What a relief! So far I’m all praise for my Studio X Plus.

Pros:
-big screen, good resolution and responsive touchscreen

-great graphics chip and professor

-lollipop

-feels sturdy and has decent battery life

Cons:

-long wait for support line
