Brewing Beer at home: Brew Your Own Beer Within Weeks -A Beginners Guide-
Brewing Beer at home: Brew Your Own Beer Within Weeks -A Beginners Guide-
Price: $2.99

1.0 out of 5 stars As an experienced Home Brewer I can not recommend this book, June 15, 2015
Much better information is available - for free, just search for How to Brew Palmer.

The book is filled with incorrect terms, that makes me wonder who the author is and where they got this information.
Making beer has nothing to do with distilling, which is an evaporative process for removing and concentrating the alcohol from the mash.
Wort is boiled to isomerize the alpha acids (and other components) in hops, and drive off DiMethyl Sulphide (DMS) to avoid a cooked corn taste.
Boiling adds in bitterness, it doesn't remove it form hops.

5.0 out of 5 stars Homebrewing, June 9, 2015

Perfect for pouring in Star San or fruit puree into a car boy or better bottle. With the high back splash there is no risk of making a mess.
After using it I rinse it off with water, then go over it with a soapy sponge. I dip it in Star San before using it for adding fruit puree.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compact and dense, a lot of knowledge contained in this book, June 9, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
You won't regret buying this book as either a novice or intermediate brewer.
Everything is covered in depth. In fact, a lot of what you read you wont absorb the first time, but as you gain experience it will make sense. I suggest reading a second time after you gain another year of brewing experience.
It's detailed and explains why you should do something and whats going on, which I like.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good for gutter cleaning on sloped roofs, June 9, 2015
It's perfect for putting on the lower roof of a Dutch colonial to gain access to the upper roof for gutter cleaning.
It was easy to extend just one leg so as to get a stable climbing platform.
It's relatively easy to use, just not quite as easy as the video shows.
It's covered in some kind of gray substance so you should wash it off with dish soap and water the first time you use it.
It's a little difficult to get through a window because of the flared legs.
Its also a little heavy to use indoors instead of a light weight aluminum step ladder.
But for the roof, or a sloped surface, its great.

4.0 out of 5 stars A brief description of many styles of beer., May 21, 2015
I enjoyed reading about the different styles, and liked the authors suggestions for representative samples.
If you've looked at the BJCP style guide lines, this helps bring them to life, so you can visualize them.

However - it's not a book about how to taste beer, and recognize the flavor components, as I was expecting. It has nothing to do with tasting classes (which I believe is misleading since that's part of the title)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good coverage of many additions and a discussion of different topics, May 21, 2015
As an all grain brewer (BIAB) I liked the presentation of the topics. The authors have a good sense of humor, and their suggestions are sound.
I enjoyed reading the book, and learned a number of things. I personally found the later section on how to conduct a taste test to be among the most valuable in the book. The other valuable tips are about how common techniques (ex: overly long dry hopping can add grassy/vegetal flavors) can go wrong.

The only negative is there was the usual intro material (brewing basics) that is found in every other how to brew book. To me it was a wasted first part of teh book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good basic coverage of a variety of topics, March 17, 2015
It would be fine as a high school biology book. Well written and organized, nice illustrations, and enjoyable to read. It's not geared towards someone with a strong biology background, like Biology major in college. But it's great for the general reader who likes science.

2.0 out of 5 stars Rambles, March 12, 2015
I didn't enjoy reading the book. I didn't like how it was organized. While the information presented may have been accurate it wasn't presented in a way that was interesting to read.

1.0 out of 5 stars Does not taste like Darjeeling tea, March 10, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It reminds me of green tea, but is not Darjeeling tea. I've made and consumed plenty of Darjeeling tea (loose not in bags) and this is not it.
I had Indians at work smell and taste it and they were in agreement.
