5.0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal taste, October 9, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
For medical reasons, I can use only instant (not loose or bagged) tea. The grocery-store instant brands taste inferior, but this tea tastes as good as (and reminds me of) the best Kenyan or Sri Lankan loose-leaf teas. It mixes easily with either hot or cold water, and it has no fillers. It's easy to adjust its strength (I find that the recommended teaspoon per cup is actually enough to make a quart). I'm so glad that this is available.

Hodgson Mill Sweet Cornbread Mix, 10-Ounce (Pack of 6)
Hodgson Mill Sweet Cornbread Mix, 10-Ounce (Pack of 6)

5.0 out of 5 stars Forgiving and authentic, October 10, 2012
This mix perfectly captures the cornbread style of the Upper Midwest (which is hard to find in a boxed mix): sweet, not crumbly, not coarse or gritty, and light. It has also turned out beautifully even when prepared very poorly indeed. I once found, after beginning, that both the butter and egg called for in the instructions were missing from the refrigerator--and the oven was unavailable, too. I split the mix into two large, straight-sided cereal bowls, stirred a tablespoon of oil into each bowl, added enough milk to make a good batter, and microwaved each bowl, at 1200 Watts, for 2 minutes. Even after all that abuse, the cornbread was wonderful.

3.0 out of 5 stars Wrong bottle type, April 25, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Although the quantity of soy sauce is the same, the bottle that I received was a restaurant-style table dispenser, not a bottle that can be closed. Because this will cause evaporation in my desert climate, the soy sauce must be transferred to another container. The photo should be updated to show the actual container.

3.0 out of 5 stars Vinegar base, December 17, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Cooks should be aware that these are ripe olives pickled in a vinegar-based brine, not the plain California-style black olives. The vinegar style is often hard to find in a sliced form, so these are great for highly flavored Mediterranean dishes (these make a good pasta sauce with the addition of only some snipped chives and a little cream, for example). For dishes where bland black olives canned without vinegar are needed, however, these are too biting in flavor to be useful. For example, they are unsuitable for many Mexican dishes. The olives aren't entirely sliced, either. The rings haven't been sorted after processing, making only about half the can's contents presentable as garnish; the other half of the can is filled with small chopped pieces, so these would be better described as salad olives than as rings. Sorting out the whole rings takes longer than it would require to slice whole olives into rings oneself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Calms redness rapidly (but 1, not 5), December 17, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This wonderful powder removes redness from areas with rosacea, psoriasis, and other irritation overnight--even after it's been washed off in the morning. Niacinamide calms riled skin very quickly, and it's much more pleasant to sleep while wearing powder than while wearing slippery lotions (pillowcases are also left in better condition). Note, however, that this is a 5-gram shaker of powder, not the 5-count described. When I emailed customer service to report that I had received only 1 jar, not 5, I was told that I would be sent another "set," but the (very prompt) replacement was another single jar. Someone in the warehouse clearly thinks that the outer carton contains 5 items instead of 1, so I didn't complain further; the price is already lower than it is elsewhere for one 5-gram jar, so a confusion between "count" and "gram" in the description seems to be the problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great shelf-stable milk, June 2, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Shelf-stable whole milk is absurdly hard to find, but this is the real thing (from Gossner of Utah and Idaho, branded as Hershey). I have no access to perishable foods, I'm medically required to use large amounts of whole milk, and I dislike the taste of evaporated and powdered milks. Gossner's boxed UHT milk was the answer, but it became unavailable in 2010. I'm so thrilled to find that it's back (with a new name).

This is real whole milk (no rBST) processed at a higher temperature, so it needs no refrigeration until it's opened. Even if you do have access to fresh milk, this is ideal for camping, last-minute recipes, and emergency supplies. It doesn't have the cooked taste of canned milks, and because it's a one-quart size, you need not worry about using a gallon or half-gallon container before it spoils. It's perfect.

1.0 out of 5 stars EEK! Real rabbit fur, October 8, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I ordered these based on the manufacturer's product description: "catnip-enhanced fabric balls," assuming that the "fur" that also appeared in the description would be fake. I'm horrified to find that they are all too real, with cores of twisted, hard animal hide. There is no label indicating country or animal of origin, but the very soft fur has a dense undercoat. I had suspected that these might be products of the horrible Chinese trade in cat fur, but the manufacturer has since clarified that they are rabbit fur. I would never knowingly buy a product of animal cruelty, but I'm glad to know that I did not let my cat play with a dead cat. To the company's credit, CoolCyberCats responded to my question about the fur's source within minutes and has attempted to remove the "fabric" description, which had been added by another seller.

2.0 out of 5 stars Warning: wheat gluten, September 22, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
These are not boxes of 16 taco shells; instead, each box contains 8 taco shells and 8 flour tortillas, in a combined hard-and-soft taco package. As this purchase was made for a person who can't have gluten, half of the product was useless. Ortega should have provided a product description and photo. Amazon, in turn, would be doing buyers a service by refusing to sell products that lack descriptions or photos. I, of course, should have purchased a brand that had a description, but I mistakenly thought that Ortega's taco shells were a standardized item that would not vary.

1.0 out of 5 stars About half the claimed weight!, February 24, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
While the variety was interesting, the description was highly deceptive. The weight was listed as 5 pounds, but adding the weights from the candy included yielded only slightly more than half of that, at 2.8 pounds. There were, as claimed, more than 30 pieces (35), but only six were full-price/size chocolate bars. Much of the rest was cheap filler, not the full-sized pieces touted in the description. For example, there were several types of gum included, as well as small pieces of taffy, and many items weighed less than half an ounce (in one case, a tenth of an ounce). The actual value of the candy appeared to be $10 to $12, at most, and the presentation--thrown in a printed carton with a single sheet of crumpled paper--was certainly not worth the rest of the price. Many items looked shopworn due to this poor packing, and all brittle items (such as Necco wafers) arrived in fragments. Anyone receiving this as a gift would assume that the giver spent about $15 on it, not $40. I feel cheated.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great bread substitute, September 7, 2007
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I can't get out to buy fresh bread, but this product is an excellent substitute. My shipment tasted neither flat nor stale, although some packages had been crushed in transit (instant croutons). I'm especially pleased that these don't have the overly sweet taste that is so common in other whole-wheat products. I use them as part of a low-glycemic diet with cheeses, eggs, soups, salads, and spreads, and I'll be reordering them often.
