Interesting story about a period of American history not well known. I liked the back and forth from the past to the present. The writing, though, didn't grab me.

3.0 out of 5 stars A little too neatly tied up, June 16, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book echoes Jhumpa Lahiri's The Lowland. But unlike that book, the story of searching for one's roots and identity is too neatly tied up in a bow and happily ever after. The best part is the perspective of the driver toward the Boses/bosses.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible Customer Servicie/Poorly sized product DO NOT BUY, June 3, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This vendor tricks you into purchasing expedited shipping by saying it will take nearly two months to receive it. The vendor blames this on Amazon. Amazon says it uses information the vendor provides. In any event, the customer is out $30 for no good reason.

On top of that, the product is poorly sized. We ordered an XL. It is the size of most medium shirts.

What a waste of money and time.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting setting but ...., April 20, 2012

It's an insightful look at Saudi Arabian culture and the life of the rich and famous. But the writing is not strong. A good book but not great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Calling Football Fans Everywhere, February 6, 2012

Give It to Steve! is a sports lover's paradise. Will Bunch has scored a touchdown with a thoroughly researched tale about the Eagles' historic game in 1948, capturing the details of the sport and the times And in the process, he proves what wimps we've all become.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best technology ever invented, January 3, 2012

The Kindle Keyboard is the best piece of technology I own -- mainly because of ease of use to read books and free 3G as well as wi-fi.

1.0 out of 5 stars Only Steve Jobs, December 3, 2011
This review is from: Steve Jobs (Kindle Edition)
Steve Jobs book would sell for $14.99 on Kindle -- he who got a monopoly of publishers to force Amazon to raise its prices on e-books. RIP.

1.0 out of 5 stars Overpriced for ebook, November 23, 2011

Not for the story, I haven't read it, but for the price. Overpriced for a Kindle edition, especially since the paperback is cheaper. Come on publishers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good read and compelling analysis of urban America, July 28, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The Other Wes Moore keeps the reader turning pages. Ripe for discussion over the fate of America's urban, African-American youth. And the book does not play the blame game but asks young men and women -- and their parent/s -- to take responsibility for their futures. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Poignantly lovely, December 10, 2009
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I took a gamble and kindled the short story advance Between Here znd Here. It was well-worth the 99 cents. I read it in a hospital while my often cantakerous mother was undergoing a last ditch operation. Those last moments can crystalize a relationship, for the better as Bloom captures so well. I only wish she had written a bit more.
