1.0 out of 5 stars Flawed design, will not purchase again., March 28, 2014
EXACT same problem as other have noted. The screw/spring mechanism that attached the belt and buckle are fundamentally flawed in design, buyer beware.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very solid Character Action Game, November 20, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Knack (PlayStation 4) (Video Game)
I'd like to start out saying that KNACK is not normally my type of game, but having Killzone Shadowfall, Assassin's Creed BF and Resogun I thought KNACK might be a nice change of pace, and have NOT regretted my decision. To be clear, this is not a platforming game, but rather a beat-em up with platforming. Reviewers have been harsh on the game, and I feel this is rather unfortunate, as it may dissuade its potential audience from picking it up. Mechanically, the game is fairly simple, and this is on purpose, evidenced by how you obtain power ups and upgrades, they are done slowly, through the coarse of the game, and more than likely you won't be able to use the majority of them until a 2nd playthrough.

If your interested, I'd say check it out, watch some live streams on Twitch and see if it looks good to you, but don't just discount it because of reviews.

5.0 out of 5 stars A game for all ages, January 29, 2013
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I love RPG's, probably my favorite genre, but within this generation of games I feel the quality of JRPG's in particular has really gone down. FFXIII is the game that instantly comes to mind. Sure Fallout, Skyrim, and to a degree Demon's/Dark Souls are fantastic, but rare is the the case this console generation of a traditional JRPG being this good.

Although I am a grown man, this game takes me to a place that makes me feel what it was like to be a kid. The sense of exploration, wonder, and joy that come when playing are, for me, very closely tied to this feeling.

With this in mind, you would not find it surprising to know that the game was co-created with the word famous Studio Ghibli with music by Joe Hisaishi and really, they manage to capture that same sense that Ghibli movies are so renowned for.

Music, graphics, gameplay (specifically the battle system) are all expertly handled. I can only hope that this game is popular enough for them to collaborate again in the future.

Buy this game, if you want to experience the wonder that JRPG's used to deliver all the time.

As an avid fan of shmups, I am VERY happy G.Rev brought this game to our shores. The PS3, unfortunately, is not the best place for fans of the genre, however Under Defeat HD is a game I am proud is on the system. From the rocking soundtrack to the great graphics and addition of a widescreen mode, G.Rev had done a great job with this game.

My greatest hope is that this game does well enough for G.Rev to localize their upcoming PSP game Gunhound EX and possibly "Mamoru-kun".

5.0 out of 5 stars A Spectacular FPS, February 27, 2012
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars

This review will focus solely on the single player aspect of the game, as I have yet to delve into the co-op multiplayer (which I've heard is also great, but will wait to form my own opinion).

I will preface this review by stating my fondness for "cyberpunk" and sci-fi in general. With its narrative, Syndicate draws from some shining examples of those genres (e.g. Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell, The Matrix) to combine them and make an interesting take on technology and corporate greed with no limits. While Syndicates story fairly formulaic within its genre, where the game excels at storytelling is through its visual design and interpretation of its world. You take on the role of an augmented corporate "Agent" whose duty it is to preform extreme acts of corporate sabotage. Utilizing enhancements to your body (a mild RPG mechanic that allows you to choose an ability upgrade certain intervals in the story) your able to augment your performance and "bend" the game to your play style. Everything is presented in a slick and futuristic way both through the use of great art and heads up display.

Gameplay sees your Agent (You) for example: Running into a room, enemies start to pour in, How do you handle it? Well one way would be to "Persuade" (An ability) an enemy to turn traitor against his own and fight against you, then activate your DART system (effectively "bullet time" in the game) and take out the enemies along side your new ally. DART allows for customization and therefore lets you adapt it to your style of play. Its essentially letting you live out your version of "The Matrix" in a game (minus the flying and karate, lol). Essentially making your think (pretty quickly) when you enter a room of bad guys. If you mess up checkpoints are fairly generous and personally I am playing on "Hard" and not having too much trouble.

If your a fan of Sci-Fi, and First Person Shooters, I really can't recommend this game enough. Its got If fun, fast paced, surrounds your with fantastic graphics and slick scenes and is a blast to play. I heartily recommend it. If you have any specific questions about the single player game let me know in the comments and I'll do my best to answer.

Lets be realistic. This is a "light gun" game. Nothing more, nothing less. If you like that kind of game, especially any of the older HotD titles, this is a no brainer.
Add in PS Move support and possibly a gun peripheral and you'll be having fun. The game adds a lot to the old formula by introducing Grindhouse stylings into the characters and story telling, giving the game a wonderful B-Movie vibe. Recommended.

1.0 out of 5 stars Good ergonomics succumb to flawed design choices, August 25, 2010
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
I've owned the 360 since very close to its launch, and thus have been using the controller for quite some time now. I feel the 360 controller is a bit of a conundrum as so many people sing its praises, yet to me, its detrimental aspects far outweigh its form fitting design.

Pros:
Born from the marriage of design of the Original Xbox "S" controller and The Sega Dramcast controller the ergonomic design affords a very comfortable grip when just holding it in your hands. The aesthetic of the controller, likewise is very appealing. Button placement is very good and the sticks have a nice stiff feeling allowing for precise movement. In particular the triggers "L" and "R" feel very well implemented and lend themselves to FPS style games.

Cons:
So with so much going for it, there are several hurdles that make this controller sub-par in my experience. First and foremost is the stiffness of the "A" "B" "X" "Y" buttons. After playing a game for more than 20 minutes my fingers actually hurt because of the extremely rigid tension in each of these buttons. Having a controller that makes your fingers hurt and tired from short use is unforgivable. An equally unforgivable offense is the atrocious "D Pad". The 360's D-Pad is beyond bad, suffering from stiff, unresponsive design and imprecise movement.

The fact that Microsoft let these flaws through their intial focus testing, and allowed them to continue for so long in the 360's lifecycle is downright absurd. Until they fix these flaws, they will get no greater rating from me than 1 star.
