5.0 out of 5 stars July's Voice Gives Author-Read Audiobook Added Dimension, February 6, 2015
Author Miranda July reads her heartbreakingly human first novel with so much deadpan wit, tenderness, humor, yearning, sorrow and joy that this unabridged audiobook makes a wonderful companion to the print version. Very highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Author-Read Audiobook Is Great!, February 6, 2015
Miranda July's wonderful, strange and unexpectedly moving first novel makes for a great listening experience as an audiobook, read by the author herself. Unabridged, seven CDs, highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Claudia Brücken & Producer Stephen Hague Collaboration, June 28, 2013
This review is from: The Lost Are Found (Audio CD)
This is one of the most beautiful and well-produced albums you'll ever hear. If you already are a fan of Claudia, Propaganda or Act, don't be put off by the fact that this album is entirely made up of covers of other artists' songs. The choices are eclectic and inspired, and Claudia (with producer Stephen Hague) works her magic to make them her own. And if you're not already a fan of Claudia and her previous bands, you will want to buy up everything she's done after hearing this gem. Five stars!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Live Concert CD and DVD, June 3, 2013
This CD/DVD set definitely is preferable to buying only the audio, because seeing the band in concert with a live orchestra is a treat. The only flaw with the DVD is that the director made the huge mistake of shooting Hooverphonic lead singer Noémie Wolfs straight on most of the time, even though she is singing into a large microphone that hides the bottom half of her face. That means it's usually impossible to see her mouth when she is singing. Ouch. It doesn't ruin the experience, but it's annoying to know the problem could have been solved if the camera had been slightly to one side, or if the microphone had been lower, or if Noémie had been wearing a mike.

(Also, the entire concert is shot in black and white, if that kind of thing bothers you.)

The performances themselves are excellent, however, spanning the entire length of Hooverphonic's impressive career (including the eras with other singers before Wolfs joined). Recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Feel-Good Pop Gem, June 3, 2013
This review is from: Check in (Audio CD)
Full of upbeat pop songs with great vocals, this is one of those rare albums that actually makes you feel better about life in general as you're listening to it. Can't believe this group didn't receive more acclaim, because this CD is terrific.

5.0 out of 5 stars Catchy, Fascinating and Clever, June 1, 2013
This review is from: Momusmcclymont (Audio CD)
Sure to please longtime Momus fans (and I definitely count myself among them), this collaborative effort is catchy, fascinating and clever. Also, be sure to check out Nick Currie's very DIY videos for songs from this album on YouTube, my favorite of which may be the one for "Shadowman."

2.0 out of 5 stars WON'T PLAY HYBRID CD-SACD DISCS!, May 19, 2013
I bought this used. When I put in a Rolling Stones hybrid disc, the text display said NOT HYBRID. I then put in a Pink Floyd hybrid disc and got the same message. I wish I had read the reviews on this page before purchasing, because apparently the fact that this machine stops detecting the SACD layer on hybrids is a common problem. I do not have any SACD only discs (do they even make such things?), so I can't tell what would happen if I inserted one of those.

I still give the machine two stars instead of one, because it sounds fine when playing CDs, and I like the display. Takes forever to start playing a disc, however.

5.0 out of 5 stars Will There Be a New "The Next Day" Edition?, April 23, 2013
Great stuff. Is a new print edition that will include listings for "The Next Day" on the way? This most recent revised edition was printed in 2011, and there were several revised editions before that one, so here's hoping.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a Complete Story, No Conclusion or Wrap-Up Here, August 20, 2012
Interesting concept and nice art, but be warned that this collection of the first Hickman SHIELD series does not reach any sort of conclusion or climax. It just ends, with plenty of loose ends waiting to be tied up later. That made this a pretty unsatisfying read. Even a collection of issues from an ongoing series should have a complete main plot, even if some elements extend beyond a given arc. The fact that this book collects every issue in a limited series makes it even more disappointing that there's nothing resembling a wrap-up.

3.0 out of 5 stars "Double Play Compact Disc" Is Only 40:58 Long, July 3, 2012
This review is from: Paradise (Audio CD)
Record albums were shorter back in the old days, but be aware that this CD -- which is labeled as "Double Play Compact Disc" and "Equivalent to Two Albums" on the front of the booklet -- is only 40 minutes and 58 seconds long (16 songs).
