5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, A Police DVD!!!!!, March 18, 2003
I'm watching this DVD as I'm writing this review and so far, so good!!!! The early videos are so goofy and geeky - like so many other early 80's videos - with Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland defintely lokking like a punk/new wave band; while the later videos are more somber..and before this DVD came out, the only video I'd seen was for "Every Breath You Take". Those are the pros, here's the cons: the sound mixing is a little weird, they should have added the Synchronicity concert video on this DVD, and if they really wanted to make this a must have not just for diehard fans but for casual fans as well they should have packaged this DVD with the best-of compilation EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE: THE CLASSICS.
Anyway, great DVD, but here's what should have been:
CD
1. Roxanne
2. Can't Stand Losing You
3. So Lonely
4. Message In A Bottle
5. Walking On The Moon
6. The Bed's Too Big Without You
7. Don't Stand So Close To Me
8. De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da
9. When The World Is Running Down...
10. Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic
11. Invisible Sun
12. Spirits In The Material World
13. Demolition Man
14. Synchronicity II
15. Every Breath You Take
16. King Of Pain
17. Wrapped Around Your Finger
18. Don't Stand So Close To Me '86
DVD
Music Videos:
1. Roxanne
2. Can't Stand Losing You
3. Message In A Botte
4. Walking On The Moon

5.0 out of 5 stars THE GREATEST LIVE COLLECTION EVER MADE!!!!!, February 24, 2003
This box set is just excellent!!! Three CD's of audio (Live in Mexico City, February/March 1993) and two DVD's of video (San Diego, January 1992; Seattle, August 1989), now in a more convenient package than the original, and a bit cheaper. Where most groups would just throw together a half-baked live compilation, leave it to a group like Metallica, who truly gives their rabid fans nothing but the best, to amass a thunderous set like this. The Mexico City set is really good, though there is a sharp drop in audio quality between discs 2 and 3. The San Diego set is pretty cool, but it's the Seattle set (taken from the "Damaged Justice Tour 1989") that is worth the price of this collection alone!!!! I don't know what else can be said about this killer live package other than if you buy it, you will want to watch it and listen to it all the time!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, a definitive collection!, February 16, 2003
Lionel Richie finally gets a fitting retrospective with THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION, which covers more ground than BACK TO FRONT and TRULY/THE LOVE SONGS did. Besides his trademark ballads (which to be honest, I love "Hello", "Easy", "Penny Lover", "Stuck On You", "Say You, Say Me", "Do It To Me", "Ballerina Girl", and "Goodbye"; I can't stand "Endless Love" and "Three Times A Lady" because they're too saccharine and so overplayed, and the rest are ok.) But the uptempo songs are just terrific. "All Night Long (All Night)" was the first Lionel Richie song I ever heard; that song brings back so many good memories. "Running With The Night" sounds like a great slice of 80's synth-pop with all those layers of keyboards and the obligatory guitar solo. And "Dancing On The Ceiling" is a guilty pleasure, a goofily infectious new wave dance track (back in '88 I bought the tape of DANCING ON THE CEILING and it reminds me of long road trips between Houston and El Paso that I used to take with my family.) The two new tracks are decent; "To Love A Woman" is a soulful duet with Enrique Iglesias which sounds like a leftover from Iglesias' ESCAPE, while "Goodbye" is a classic Lionel Richie Ballad in the mold of "Hello" and "Truly". The limited edition bonus disc contains 5 tracks: "Zoom", "Oh No", "Can't Slow Down" (early working version), "Lady" and, as an unlisted track, "Brick House", which makes the bonus disc a keeper. This collection could have easily been a full 2-disc collection, maybe that will surface in the future. Anyway, this is the best Lionel Richie CD ever.

While there are already enough New Order compilations (SUBSTANCE, THE BEST OF NEW ORDER and RETRO) this one is the best and the most concise. Though there are only 14 tracks covering 22 years, at least there are the complete versions of "Blue Monday", "Thieves Like Us", "Shellshock", "Bizarre Love Triangle", "True Faith", "Touched By The Hand Of GOD" and "Crystal" in all their 6 and 7 minute glory (unlike THE BEST OF NEW ORDER, which were mostly single versions). This compilation does overlap greatly with SUBSTANCE and RETRO, but SUBSTANCE a two-disc set, and RETRO is an expensive four-disc set, so this compilation is the best for your money (and if you are not a fan, I still recommend this disc for "Blue Monday", "Bizarre Love Triangle", "True Faith" and "Touched By The Hand Of GOD"!!!). Also, for a limited time, this disc comes with a bonus DVD with 3 videos - "Blue Monday/LIVE", "True Faith" and "The Perfect Kiss". All of the videos are good, but why didn't they put all of their videos on the DVD? Message to record companies and artists: If your gonna put out a video compilation, please include everything!!! Anyway, great compilation.College

5.0 out of 5 stars This album is screaming for a remaster!!!, February 4, 2003
This review is from: 1999 (Audio CD)
Warner Bros. or Rhino Records should remsater and reissue all of Prince's Warner Bros. catalog, and since there's so many albums to cover, they should release everything in 2-CD sets. Here's what should be on this one:

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Homemade Demo Tape Ever Released!!!, February 4, 2003
This review is from: Dirty Mind (Audio CD)
DIRTY MIND is defintely the most straightforward album Prince has ever made - though at eight tracks and 30 minutes, it's more like an EP. Warner Bros. or Rhino Records should remaster and reissue this album as well as all of Prince's Warner Bros. catalog because the original CD pressings don't sound as good as they could be. In fact, since there's so many albums to cover, they should rerelease his music in 2-CD sets to cover everything - and the first four albums are short enough that they could all fit on two discs. Here's what should be:
PRINCE/1978-1981 (FOR YOU, PRINCE, DIRTY MIND, CONTROVERSY)
CD 1
1. For You
2. In Love
3. Soft And Wet
4. Crazy You
5. Just As Long As We're Together
6. Baby
7. My Love Is Forever
8. I'm Yours
9. So Blue
10. I Wanna Be Your Lover
11. Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad?
12. Sexy Dancer
13. When We're Dancing Close And Slow
14. With You
15. Bambi
16. Still Waiting
17. I Feel For You
18. It's Gonna Be Lonely
CD 2
1. Dirty Mind
2. When You Were Mine
3. Do It All Night
4. Gotta Broken Heart Again
5. Uptown
6. Head
7. Sister
8. Partyup
9. Gotta Stop Messin' About (b-side of "Let's Work")
10. Controversy
11. Sexuality
12. Do Me, Baby
13. Private Joy
14. Ronnie, Talk To Russia
15. Let's Work
16. Annie Christian
17. Jack U Off

5.0 out of 5 stars DANCE! MUSIC! SEX!!! ROMANCE!, February 3, 2003
This review is from: 1999 (Audio CD)
1999 is one of Prince's four classic albums (the others being DIRTY MIND, PURPLE RAIN, and SIGN O' THE TIMES) and his commercial breakthrough to a wider audience. Kicking off the classic title track with a distorted voice that intones "Don't worry, I won't hurt you, I only want you to have fun", then shifting into that unmistakable organ-synth riff, partying down in the face of imminent danger, building the voices at the end to a climax, then playing chicken-scratch funk-guitar and a childlike voice saying "Mommy, why does everybody have a bomb?" before vanishing. Only Prince can comeup with sounds that match his lyrics. (Though the song seems a little dated now that it's past the year 1999, it's still too good of a song to die, and I think Prince should change the title to "2999" to keep it going for another 1000 years!!!) Anyway, as soon as the song finishes, in comes "Little Red Corvette", one of the best songs ever written about sex without actually saying it and a shifting start-stop rhythm. "Delirious" is defintely one of the goofiest-sounding songs Prince has ever made, anchored by a silly New Wave synth-line and a punk rhythm. "Let's Pretend We're Married" has so many sections and sounds kinda spacey and computer-like. "D.M.S.R." is the best dance-funk song George Clinton never made, "Automatic" clocks in at nine minutes with the same rhythm that predates "When Doves Cry", and "Something In The Water (Does Not Compute)" - my favorite song here, races along on a shuffling drum machine, swelling futuristic synths, and the Purple One's nervous vocals. "Free" is a tender, inspirational ballad, "Lady Cab Driver" finds our hero running from a woman described in "Annie Christian" (from CONTROVERSY), "All The Critics Love U In New York" takes swipes at snobs, and "International Lover" is the requisite bedroom ballad. Warner Bros. or Rhino Records should remsater and reissue this and all of Prince's Warner-era albums with bonus tracks. Here's what should be:
1. 1999
2. Little Red Corvette
3. Delirous
4. Let's Pretend We're Married
5. D.M.S.R.
6. Automatic
7. Something In The Water (Does Not Compute)
8. Free
9. Lady Cab Driver
10. All The Critics Love U In New York
11. International Lover
12. Horny Toad
13. Irresistable B****
14. How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore
Anyway, this is great music, probably some of the most futuristic-sounding music I have ever heard, that it's hard to believe that it came out 20 years ago, which shows how Prince's music was so ahead of it's time!!!
